Well, only if you actually clicked on anything on the pages you were redirected to. Hopefully you have something already in place on your computer that would have protected you from infection. But if you clicked on the OK button on one of the little pop-ups, then you quite likely gave implicit permission for them to install whatever they wanted, so yeah, if you clicked on anything, rather than simply closing your browser, it wouldn’t hurt to have a thorough scan performed.
Wasn’t accessible for 3 days for me [counting this morning as day 3] – -very- glad ‘Skin Horse’ and ‘Horror Every Day’ are back. Based on yesterday’s comments, now I’m thinking it was some problem in Firefox, durn it all.
Fortunately, goComics was actually keeping current for a change. So while I was a wee bit anxious for Shaenon’s sake, I did at least get my daily SH fix.
Agree. You are indeed my guilty pleasure. You remind me that sanity is highly over-rated. May all hackers die a horrible death, strangled by their own ethernet cables.
Isn’t anybody at all bothered by the party apparently being hosted by the supposedly incarcerated supervillainess? And with Brandy Alexanders, no less, which clearly ups the evilness ante.
What HAS been going on while they were away?
And just who IS leading the cheer in the third panel?
She isn’t incarcerated — supposedly or otherwise. Tigerlily escaped from The Institute quite a long time ago, and has been holed up in Annex One ever since. And since Dr. Engelbright has been working for Skin Horse since they were re-established, it’s doubtful that anyone has even been looking for Tigerlily.
There’s a lovely quote by Mark Twain in “The adventures of Tom Sawyer” about the difference between working and playing:
Tom said to himself that it was not such a hollow world, after all. He had discovered a great law of human action, without knowing it–namely, that in order to make a man or a boy covet a thing, it is only necessary to make the thing difficult to attain. If he had been a great and wise philosopher, like the writer of this book, he would now have comprehended that Work consists of whatever a body is OBLIGED to do, and that Play consists of whatever a body is not obliged to do.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s fixed now, and that the problem it was having in the last few hours (garbage characters filling the screen) was related to the upgrade I did, not to the hack from a few days ago.
It’s back!! What happened? Site has been inaccessible since yesterday (for me, anyway).
They got hacked. All of Shaenon’s sites were redirecting to a phishing site.
So this means we should get our computers checked if we tried to visit her site? o_O

Hello, everyone! Sorry for the interruption. My sites got hacked the other day. Thank you so, so much to Josh Larios for getting them back up.
Happy to help, and glad it worked!
Big ups to Larios!
Hurrah!
(BTW, got my books last week! More Hurrahs!)
Hail!
Just glad you’re back!
Glad you were able to take care of it.
Just happy to have my Skin Horse fix again.
What Sasha said. Felt mild panic yesterday 🙂

Wouldn’t that mean that the only surviving hackers would be the ones smart enough to devise secure wireless networks?
Good point, Smithnik. May all hackers die a horrible death, dazzled into a fatal epileptic fit by a .gif which has been uploaded to their computers.
Even wireless networks have to be connected with a wire at some point.
Shouldn’t that be “Colossi?” Unless they’re just talking about Tip…
Yes, Tip is The Colossus.

The silverfish is the one cheering.

What’s evil about brandy alexanders? Other than the inherent evil that exists in all cream cocktails.
Okay, now ask for a sign, booze, a pay raise, and a vacation in the Bahamas for a week. Hey, might as well see how far you can push the envelope.
Be careful what you wish for — a trip to the Bahamas could easily turn into a working vacation. Or even a frantically-trying-to-stay-alive “vacation”.
Their suspiciously-simultaneous vacation to Whimsey World fell into that category.
True, but they knew that their Whimsy trip was work. It was only “vacation” because it wasn’t sanctioned work.
Cut and pasted the following.

I’m still getting weird garbage when I try the Narbonic site
Ah, looks like that was a cache problem. Should be fixed now; let me know if you’re still seeing garbage there.
Or not. Hrm. Working on it.
I’m not having any trouble with Narbonic. But I hadn’t tried to visit it at all during the problem period.
