To be fair one has a stable mad scientist experiment… which strange in it self. The other… has a slight sane insane mad scientist that managed to keep enough of his skill without going bonkers or dying from many of the world’s many threats.
Honestly I feel like the more likely reason for him to be rare would be Mell *not* happening to him. In this one very rare situation, she was actually a pretty good influence on the kid.
Consider, for a moment, that he wasn’t actually caught in a time loop, but rather hopping between the consciousnesses of parallel versions of himself that didn’t make it in their universes.
Alternately, the vast majority of them didn’t get the benefit of a timeloop to figure out how not to be dead.
Actually if it hadn’t been for the many deaths of Jonah Yu, Sergio might have tried to just escape from AnaSigma, instead of getting Dr. Lee’s help, and gotten flambed by axolotl, tau cannoned, extripatied, etc.
You’re overlooking the obvious-the sheer number of meddling future selves involved in his timeline. It’s quite possible that it isn’t just that Sergio is rare, but also that Sergios that are ACTUALLY AVAILABLE to artie are hard to find.
I’m guessing universes with Artie or Sergio are rare because they tend to get destroyed. I mean, we know of at least one timeline from Narbonic where the universe got destroyed because of Artie.
I mean… we’ve seen more alternative versions of Artie and Sergio than any other characters (except maybe Jonah Yu)… just sayin’… the seem like the *least* rare characters in any universe…
As someone from Missouri, I’m shuddering at the thought of a St. Louis Disneyland. Would probably be worse than the current Six Flags. Not by much though.
If I remember correctly, Disney proposed an indoor theme park in the 60’s to be located on the St Louis waterfront, but the money never worked out. I guess that in this universe Uncle Walt was able to close the deal.
Yeah, but it also dries up quickly– the rains are usually brief (unless it’s February) and DW’s far enough inland that it avoids the coastal bad weather. I was born and raised in NW Florida and like most schoolkids from that area I went there a lot; add that to family vacations and I’ve been to see the Rat uh… **counts**… fifteen times to date.
Disneyland, Paris? One of the wettest and grayest cities in Europe? They’d have built near Rome or Marseille or Barcelona if “sun” was the determining factor 😛
I just looked it up. St. Louis has more sunshine than Paris or Tokyo.
Besides, Riverfront Square [which is what the Disney park would have been called] was planned as a giant INDOOR amusement park, all inside a giant 5-story building. The stuff I’ve found online about it sounds really cool, with a park that would have been mostly a Frontierland with a secondary Fantasyland. Lewis & Clark, Davy Crockett, Mike Fink, heavy use of audio-animatronics [which were then new].
I certainly would have wanted to go there!
Apparently, August Busch [the beer guy] made fun of Disney for not wanting to allow beer sales, so Disney took his theme park idea and went home.
I’m guessing he doesn’t have much to say about anything – Artie doesn’t strike me as the type to hunt so desperately for another Sergio if this one were distinguishable from a vegetable.
Alt-Sergio only needed the iron lung during his recovery, but in that time he realized he literally didn’t have to do anything anymore. He didn’t even have to breathe. People who get that relaxed don’t always come back again.
I think this shows Artie’s glaring weakness amid all his intellect and potentiality – he gets so focused on What he wants to do that he completely forgets Why he wants to do it. Artie focuses on the goal to the exclusion of all else, including morals and common sense.
Yes but his basic personality is still there so Sergio has a chance if he can shift Artie’s focus back to…hmmm. Social justice isn’t going to help unless Sergio can convince him to stick up for the humans. Suddenly I’m less hopeful.
Oh artie, you hopeless romantic.
Sergio and Arties are rare? Okay…
Well, Artie was basically created on a whim by a mad scientist and then there were SO many ways he could have randomly died.
As for Sergio…now, that’s interesting. Maybe his parents meet due to really odd circumstances. Or maybe Anasigma just usually kills him.
Alternatively, maybe he wouldn’t have survived to adulthood without the meddling/intervention of a certain chimeric primary school teacher.
Or in most universes Mell happens to him.
No, the universes where Mell happens to him turn out great for Sergio, Mell’s there to look out for him.
One of only two people for whom Mell happening is a good thing, the other being a certain ex-demon of our acquaintance.
To be fair one has a stable mad scientist experiment… which strange in it self. The other… has a slight sane insane mad scientist that managed to keep enough of his skill without going bonkers or dying from many of the world’s many threats.
Just look at Mell if your looking for threats.
Honestly I feel like the more likely reason for him to be rare would be Mell *not* happening to him. In this one very rare situation, she was actually a pretty good influence on the kid.

I think you have the wrong character.
Actually if it hadn’t been for the many deaths of Jonah Yu, Sergio might have tried to just escape from AnaSigma, instead of getting Dr. Lee’s help, and gotten flambed by axolotl, tau cannoned, extripatied, etc.

You may be on to something there…

No matter how super-intelligent you are, love can make you act irrational and completely creepy to the person you’re attracted to.
Good intentions: road-paving by the ton.
“St. Louis Disneyland??”
What is that, the Branson, Missouri of Disney theme parks?
As someone from Missouri, I’m shuddering at the thought of a St. Louis Disneyland. Would probably be worse than the current Six Flags. Not by much though.

Eh. St. Louis is too far north for a Disneyland. Need more sunny days per year. That’s why Disneyland and Disney World are at the latitude they ate.
By your premise, Disney World wouldn’t been built in Orlando Florida until much later. It rain there a lot, especially during the summer.
Yeah, but it also dries up quickly– the rains are usually brief (unless it’s February) and DW’s far enough inland that it avoids the coastal bad weather. I was born and raised in NW Florida and like most schoolkids from that area I went there a lot; add that to family vacations and I’ve been to see the Rat uh… **counts**… fifteen times to date.

on an unrelated note, new x files episodes YEARS later
Actually, a St Louis Disneyland would make a lot of sense, considering Walt lived in Missouri between the ages of 4 and 16
So what does Sergio’s counterpart, the guy in the iron lung, have to say about Alt-Artie going out and bringing in *another* Sergio?
I’m guessing he doesn’t have much to say about anything – Artie doesn’t strike me as the type to hunt so desperately for another Sergio if this one were distinguishable from a vegetable.
Till he made his jailbreak from Anasigma, Our Sergio wasn’t much distinguishable from a vegetable…
“Finally, a source of compatible replacement parts?”
Alt-Sergio only needed the iron lung during his recovery, but in that time he realized he literally didn’t have to do anything anymore. He didn’t even have to breathe. People who get that relaxed don’t always come back again.
But yeah, I think Robert’s got it.
Anyone else just a little surprised to see Artie showing this level of commitment to someone? Not just caring about them, but commitment?
Helen’s creations *never* get committed, and *always* need it…
I think this shows Artie’s glaring weakness amid all his intellect and potentiality – he gets so focused on What he wants to do that he completely forgets Why he wants to do it. Artie focuses on the goal to the exclusion of all else, including morals and common sense.
Well, genetically he IS mostly a rodent… and goal-oriented tunnel vision is why mousetraps work. Gotta get that delicious cheese, right?
Yes but his basic personality is still there so Sergio has a chance if he can shift Artie’s focus back to…hmmm. Social justice isn’t going to help unless Sergio can convince him to stick up for the humans. Suddenly I’m less hopeful.
