Quick question: Seeing as Shelby was apparently responsible for the barrier not holding in “Can’t Catch Me,” which power did he use? Telekinesis? I’m not sure it all adds up.
Probably didn’t use a superpower at all, but simply a chemical to counteract the natural properties of goldenrod that normally inhibits pine growth. All he would have had to do is spray it on the goldenrod.
This will probably never come up in canon, because there’s only so much panel space we can dedicate to massive info-dumps, but we’ll see. I will say that a superpower was in fact used.
Oh, that’s just cruel. Now that you’ve piqued our interest, you simply must let the cat out of the bag. I mean, otherwise it’ll just suffocate in there!
Sure, a dead cat would make a nice snack for Unity, but it wouldn’t do the rest of us any good.
(And if it’s an evil cat, it’ll just get boiled in oil in hell, and you wouldn’t want that on your conscience, would you?)
Would a government agency dedicated to assisting non-human sapients really label the department devoted to overseeing employment using the term “Human” Resources?
Good point. Should be something more like “Personnel”.
And I’m not sure what Tip is talking about anyway. It was the support staff who went on that run, not HR, and they were gone for two days. But then I suppose Tip really isn’t all that observant.
Thought it was Dr. Lee (a temp), Moustachio (the receptionist), Hitty (an intern), Bubbles (the water cooler), and the cobras (probably not on staff, maybe their wards). Some evil plot to get access to hot towels.
More or less, that’s right. Word had come down from on high that hot towel service would no longer be available for support staff (such as the coffee lady, the water cooler, etc.), but only for field agents. So Dr. Lee got the bright idea to have the four staff members you mentioned be assigned a field mission so they would qualify. Their mission was transporting the Cobras — who were being moved because of (justifiable) safety concerns — from the old Annex One building to the Jersey safehouse.
@Alan: That just means that, as office manager, Dr. Engelbright is authorized to handle HR requests. It doesn’t make them — or even Dr. Engelbright — a part of HR.
@Robert: When Dr. Lee was hired, she was brought onboard solely for coffee detail. And even though after the Jersey assignment she was technically a field agent, she was still the coffee lady.
I think one thing we can be sure of is that Anasigma’s spies within AG-I aren’t (or, at least, weren’t) that effective, either. Otherwise, Dr Engelbright would never have sent Virginia to a location where AG-I were messing around with stuff.
Anasigma seems like the kind of organization that would compartmentalize knowledge. Just because Dr. Engelbright didn’t know about the AG-I op in the Pine Barrens doesn’t mean that no one at Anasigma knew about it. (And the people who knew about the AG-I field ethics test probably didn’t know who the Anasigma agents in Skin Horse were.)
Apparently, someone a A-Sig knew something, because there were A-Sig snipers there. AG-I may have leaked the information themselves so they could see how Nick and Red Knight would handle snipers.
The other alternative is that the A-Sig snipers were only there to guard the sawmill, and didn’t know about AG-I. But AG-I knew about them, since Nick and Red Knight were warned about an A-Sig presence.
But Engelbright is an informant. She only sends information – she doesn’t receive it. So she didn’t know about EITHER group being there.
It was an ethics and competency evaluation. They were sent in with incomplete intel to study their reactions. Nick passed the test. Red Knight, understandably, did not.
I keep getting completely thrown by Tip not in a dress.
Sooner or later, he’s gonna have to change his clothes. That suit is gonna be able to walk on its own pretty soon.
Maybe you can catch him in between.
Agreed.
Tip’s mojo is ever fresh… even when slightly tainted
http://skin-horse.com/comic/03022008/ hasn’t been used yet… still pants, though.
I thought Tip’s outfits would change like Tigerlily’s did when in the back of the Institute’s van.

Now that I think of it, a flying car is really more of a superhero transportation choice than a secret mastermind one: it’s a little too showy.
Do you know how hard it is to type those with paws, Tip?!
Can you imagine just how long those “briefings” would be if she had fingers?
Wait… HR?

Which illustrates the process, at least in part, by which the Soviet Union died.
Strangled by it’s own bureaucracy.
And that bright idea had to run straight through HR.

Skin Horse has a coffee lady? (Didn’t the coffee machine throw in when the Machine Union went out on strike?)

Are gestalt entities considered persons, or are they something bigger than that?
So what kind of evaluation did Shelby give Nick and Red Knight?
