I was gonna say. Hiring someone you hate to be your office manager is kinda stupid. You hire them to be either a gopher or you give them a fancy title somewhere out on the edge of the org chart and then use them as a gopher.
Wednesday’s comic makes clear that Sweetheart didn’t hire her, though–she doesn’t know where the new staff came from either. Friday’s comic was just an explanation of why Sweetheart doesn’t fire her.
This seems like it’s probably a realistic account of how civil service jobs work, actually.
I think that if Sweetheart *had* decided to fire her, she would have encountered some resistance. We may see this scene later, but one worries about too many plot digressions at one time.
Once we were friendly,
But you had turned to crime.
I had my zombie roommate
To keep me happy as I made the climb.
I had my zombie roommate
To keep me happy as I made the climb
What came between us?
Maybe it was just your evil ways.
But I knew you could not be tamed.
Though sometimes I think should have hunted big game.
Mmm hmm hmm my dream,
It kept me goin’ away.
Once we were friendly,
Some laughs and also smiles.
But I’ve become a major player
Taking over Skin Horse for awhile.

That’s entirely unfair. The British invented the HP line of sauces, which more than makes up for the rest of their cuisine.
Since HT is a tiger, it’s possible that HP curry sauce is on the list of shortcut ingredients. Think of it as catsup to put on people…
My experience with British sauces is limited, but suggests you are right. I did a side-to-side of HP Brown Sauce, with the USA “A-1” knockoff. A-1 was bland, HPBS was sharp and lively.
Sweetheart shouldn’t be quite so quick to dismiss H.T.’s ideas. Given her office manager’s past performance and current attitude, he might just have found the niche where she might do the most good . . .

Sweetheart didn’t hire her. She was assigned, by Shaenon only knows how high up the food chain— er, chain of command…
OK, Jeff may know, also. ^_^

That’s not how it was explained on Friday. Tip questions why Sweetheart would “want to be her boss”, then realises it’s for revenge.

Whoops, reply fail–see comment above.
Is that a goblin romance calendar?
cutest…damn…tiger…ever!
Time Bandits calendar?
I think Moe Lane about has it right. Looks like a goblin romance calendar to me.
Starts with what looks like “Time,” ends in what looks like “g.” Goblin-cake seems more likely, but who knows?
Also, do not be fooled by H.T.’s cuteness. As a tiger should be, H.T. is a completely amoral sociopath. The cuteness is just a trap.
Substitute “cat” for tiger and you have the general case.
Loving Sweetheart on the last panel XD Poor thing~
Maybe she’d look good in a nice stomach.
I see a big tummy ache resulting.
Eh. Cats are quite good at digesting pests.

I wonder what the most polite way to drop “she comes to work armed” into a conversation is.
OK, I need a list of recipes for HT’s sauces; I love anyone with more sauces than the British.
Apparently one of them is “Former patient extraction specialists in juice”
Englebright au vin?

I’m not a huge fan of HT normally? But I’ll admit to a certain amount of sympathy for his point of view here.
