That would be one. Another might be Nick’s hacking skills though I would be surprised if he didn’t think of that angle himself. The third possibility would be that Nick’s time as a full conversion cyborg has made him into what the Paranoia game would call a “machine empath”. ^_^
And the fourth is that he is very conveniently completely immune to EMP now. Even if not all his adversaries tun on electricity, a good deal of them should be…
“Funny isn’t it? The human was impervious to our most powerful magnetic fields, yet in the end he succumbed to a harmless sharpened stick!” – Robot General, Futurama
There’s a certain amount of unnatural selection at work, in that mads who don’t install them in their creations might end up having their careers terminated by said creations.
This question may have already been asked and answered, but…
Wouldn’t the Moustachio/Hitty powered Annex One mecha be an eligible participant in these games?
Nope, Unity suggested that, but Annex One is not a Machine Union member. Hitty and M are, but they could only enter if they stopped running Annex One, which I think would then fall over or something.
Nick Zerhakker! Nick Zerhakker! Plunge into these games!
Show those wimps you’re not afraid of being hacked and maimed.
Nick Zerhakker! Nick Zerhakker! Work it in the clutch!
Height, buddy, height, height, height, doesn’t matter much.
Nick Zerhakker! Nick Zerhakker! We know you’re not nuts.
Show those robot warriors that you can spill your guts.
Nick Zerhakker! Nick Zerhakker! We will cheer for you!
Stand, pep squad, let us watch them run him through.
Hey Robert….nicely done. Strange game our genes or something make us engage in. Well, it weeds out the most aggressive, I guess.
If Nick survives(likely) Ginny better make some haste with her plans or one of the cheerleaders may well be his FiRST.
Also I wish she had programmed into him some physical close-order military drills….you know, like Unity’s Russian buds drilled into her? Although from centuries of online gaming, he ought to have gathered something.
Oh well, I’m learning all the time.
Just because Lovelace still thinks he’s hot, and may still want him, doesn’t mean she’s competition. I’m a lot more like Nick than I’d like to be, and I’m quite confident that as long as Virginia exists, there is no competition.
Plus, we can probably assume that Aimee’s server is not connected to the internet (surely the Baron wouldn’t risk her getting infected or corrupted), so it’s quite possible that Lovelace is not inside.
I think it would be wise to seek out Bubbles as either a participant or major sponsor. Did she join the machine union or … did she cross union lines because “Service is My Only Joy.”
Well, given the makeup of the cheer squad, Nick might just get that armor, built by a team instead of one mad, er, irked scientist. Dr. Lee on superstructure and brain/machine interface, Chris and Marcie on power and exterior weapons, Nora programming, and Jonah pointing out the most favorable probabilities for success. Whatever other benefits Dr. Lee might think he has, this team will at least triple it.
Can’t wait to see the cheerleader outfits.
Do you think the outfits would come in my size?
In this universe? They come even in MY size!
If we’re lucky, they’ll dress up Annex One.
Have you noticed Nick and Dr. Lee are wearing Annex One gear?
If they can find some drop cloths with the Annex One logo, I’ll bet Tip could iron some pleats and make a big ass skirt for the building.
Now THERE’S a worthy Makeover challenge for Tip!
It’d be a real shame if somebody’s subconscious decided to sidetrack all of this with a blurtedpout “I love you.”
I Know

I expect a lot of the AIs have Asimov routines and won’t be able to actually fight back against fleshsuit!Nick.

Fifth, most of his opponents are probably along the lines of coffeemakers and fluorescent lamps.
What respectable mad scientist in the Narboniverse would waste time on Asimov routines?
There’s a certain amount of unnatural selection at work, in that mads who don’t install them in their creations might end up having their careers terminated by said creations.
Heed me! I am your CREATOR!!!!
Yeah… that’ll work.
Also, as buggy as it is, the meat design still has a few million years of pretty harsh stress-testing and QC on any metal it’s going to run into, so…
Give ’em an “F,” Nick.

Oh yeah … http://skin-horse.com/comic/when-he-stretched/
Moustachio could probably enter on his own, but Hitty disconnecting from Annex One would probably bring it down.

The cheerleaders consist of two male/female couples, who seem pretty content with each other.
I can’t imagine Tip passing up a chance to dress up as a cheerleader. Maybe you guys can imagine him passing it up but I can’t.
Right now, I wish I could imagine him passing up this chance, I really do.
Dr. Lee’s main competition is likely to be Lovelace!
Not likely. Nick (two Nicks, even) already turned her down.
Rejection could simply encourage Lovelace to try harder. Nick could find himself the prey in a Sadie Hawkins Day race! (figuratively speaking)
Alternatively, Nick could dive into the VR World to talk with Aimee, run into Lovelace on a similar mission, and retire for coffee to compare notes…
Just because Lovelace still thinks he’s hot, and may still want him, doesn’t mean she’s competition. I’m a lot more like Nick than I’d like to be, and I’m quite confident that as long as Virginia exists, there is no competition.

The calm, optimistic expression on our prescient pep-squad member suggests that positive probabilities prevail.
Awesome alliterations abound!

She might be a member…but she didn’t go out when they went on strike.
I just encountered the page in which Bubbles, in her original state, declined to join the strike.
Is the advantage ‘lateral problem solving’ or years of watching Robot Wars and the like?

I hope Nick gets back in a helicopter body. This must be like torture for him.
