(TUNE: “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right”, Bob Dylan)
You recall that fire destroyed the Cypress?
That was planned! But there’s more …
Anasigma had a plan, that’s my guess!
They were harvesting spores!
Now their own Cypress they have … grown and bred!
They want to foment fear of … the undead!
“You just saved 15 seconds,” Tip said …
It still counts! I guessed right!
Cypress suffered total demolition,
But its child … is alive!
I’m an endless fount of exposition!
(I’m quoting El Goonish Shive)
While I’m expounding to these … girls and guys,
Tip just gives a sigh and … rolls his eyes!
What we found comes as no big surprise …
It still counts! I guessed right!
Was it “Who Shot Mr. Burns, Part II” where Lisa went through a long expo-dump to tell the audience what they likely already knew and then Marge told her everyone else in-show had already figured it out too?
So is Lee covering her nose to fend of the stench, or is she pondering what strange and exotic bacteria she could culture out of the sludge?
Any bets on which of the Cypress minds (mother or daughter) will be running this biome, or maybe it’s mindless and controlled via some other means? Or perhaps it’s an entirely new mind? So many possibilities.
As to Dr. Lee, my money is on both. Just because you can see the possibilities, doesn’t mean you like the material they come from.
My guess is this is a third mind, grown from a culture taken from Venus. They discovered the Cypress burnt to the ground, and Ginny found a swamp weeping in Anasigma’s basement. They’d want the surviving groupmind under their thumb, but need something on-site to control the Glurch. Controlled via blackmail and whatever mad science they can come up with, but for the moment, a separate entity. An expendable asset . . .
I’d say that it’s a cyborg swamp, all wetwired and assimilated, except that LEE is the resident behavior-altering neuroscientist. Then again, this is hardly a traditional brain.
Hmmm, if TV/videogames have taught me anything, it’s that the walkway in panel 1 should have giant pistons or swinging pendulum-axes that require precise timing to navigate, a la ‘Galaxy Quest’.
Artie’s trying not to fall behind on his “Number of Strips Acting as Chief Expositionary Device” stats. Just give him this one, Tip.
Sweet shot in the 3rd panel! …also in panels 1, 2, and 4!
Is that some sort of fetus?

Thank you for citing EGS!
Except that the quote is, “I am an endless barrel of exposition!” But whatever works for the meter.

I think that was Treehouse of Horror (I forget what number), when Spike’s hair was making Homer try to kill Bart.
Sorry Artie, we already beat you to the punch here in the comments.
To be fair, we had four days. That we still would have done that in less than an hour is beside the point :p
The comic http://skin-horse.com/comic/had-sent-him/ is in the wrong place in the archive. It should be a few comics earlier.

But this show NEVER has badly written episodes…
