Eh, she’s the whole swarm. And they’re not good people (or even ambiguously amoral but amusing enough to make up for it). She wants their discomfort enough to bruise her metaphorical knuckles making it happen, more power to her.
It’s funny: I *am* rather seriously apiphobic, and I think that I would be handling this better than they are. Mostly because I wouldn’t be dumb enough to be on the other side of a sapient swarm of bees.
I assumed that Echo Bravo sent himself after hearing something unusual, rather than anyone else. Securing a beehive should be pretty easy for Mr. Green. He’d just have to set off the sonic weapon Nick used on Gavotte once, and then send someone in with a dustpan and brush.
So far, though, he hasn’t even revoke Virginia’s “walking around the building unscathed” privileges.
Just a
niggling detail that’s been bothering me: Mr. Green stated, way back in Mixed Up Files, that Gavotte had been dealt with, but now it seems she was actively trying to infiltrate the VR. What’s more, he seemed surprised by Virginia’s mention of the boardwalk.
So…
Was he aware she’d been ensnared in the VR, but not of what that would lead to? Or did he think she’d met her end? After all, a swarn can be hard to keep track of.
If one part of Gavotte showed up in the walnuttery, they might not have looked further – if anyone in charge ever looked at the VR before Dr. Lee in the first place.
If the multiple Mr. Green theory is correct(I still like the idea of him actually being a clone family) then what one Mr. Green thinks true need not be known by the other Mr. Greens. In which case he’s more like Gavotte then we realized. It’s also possible that Gavotte was actively lured into the VR by virtue of attractive bait or carefully planted clues or even the traditional Dr. Who “Of course I know it’s a trap but how else will I find out what’s going on except by walking into it?”. @_@
I’ve suggested before that Mr. Green might have used pheromones to manipulate Gavotte. Perhaps he thought he had her where he wanted her, and then the pheromone system failed, and she escaped. Then she tried to hack into the VR, but was caught in that. Maybe.
I can’t help but wonder how much remains of the pre-merger personalities? I suppose their continued existence, however tenuous, might go a long way towards justifying the multitasking Ginny is remarking upon. @_@
I hope Gavotte’s swarm isn’t the sort of bees that die when they sting.

“It’s okay… I only lost 400 bees. My queen is laying more… I am now back to… ONE MILLION BEES.”
Think of it as maybe being like willing to bloody or bruise your knuckles when you punch someone. You’re damaging yourself a little, but you can heal.
The analogy probably isn’t perfect, but it’s probably something like that.
Oh look, its Echo Bravo. Or someone who looks like him.
One begins to wonder exactly what Mr. Green’s thought processes were, when he hired all those apiphobic security staff to secure a beehive.
They might well not have been apiphobic before the first several stings.
It’s funny: I *am* rather seriously apiphobic, and I think that I would be handling this better than they are. Mostly because I wouldn’t be dumb enough to be on the other side of a sapient swarm of bees.
I don’t think he necessarily knew Gavotte was there—she wasn’t imprisoned in the VR; she tried to hack in and got stuck.
Also, yes. I don’t think you need a specific phobia to be uncomfortable with being covered in bees, especially if they’re stinging you a lot.
You do know this is the universe of mad science, right?

Go. Rescue Nick. He’ll like you in that outfit.
And I’ll bet the first thing he says is “what happened to your hair?!”
Her hair?
:click click click:
Her… hair.
Those *monsters*.
Couldn’t Gavotte devote a few from her swarm to fix the butcher job A-Sig has done to the good doctor’s hair?
would Dr. Lee feel comfortable with that?
…yes, I heard myself

Maybe they did imprison her, and “we totally were trying to get in the whole time” is how she rationalized it

I say, I say, how do you make a pheromone?
[. . .]
Tell him his mummy never really liked him.
Seems like he was just confident she wouldn’t cause any more problems.
Ego does seem to be one of his weaknesses.
That’s one of the great things about a hive mind, multitasking is the……… BEE’s knees!
*GROAN* ^_~
That pun stung.
As the number of stings increases, the number of problems that stings cannot solve approaches zero.
I can’t help but wonder how much remains of the pre-merger personalities? I suppose their continued existence, however tenuous, might go a long way towards justifying the multitasking Ginny is remarking upon. @_@
“Gavotte, how can I thank you?”
“That helmet on little-girl me.. I need a new one””
I’m still wondering about all the little tiny bee-sized helmets needed to get the whole swarm into VR…
Maybe(e) it was portions of the swarm in different human-sized VR helmets.
One large helmet, in the form of a traditional beehive would do it.
Endless subtle traps…honey traps?
Sometimes anything less than too much is not enough. Subtlety can only go so far at times.
