More Secret Thumbnails
Shaenon: Some more thumbnails for strips that didn’t make it into the comic. Yes, I had to cut one of these because the strip has been running for 14 years and CD trunk changers no longer exist.
Channing: When you get into your forties, life is just a constant series of Video Killed the Radio Star moments.
Now you’re making me miss Hollerith cards…
Those hanging chads were the worst, You just know they will lead to trouble!
Say what you will about card decks, I still admire the brazen efficiency of a massively parallel pin sort!
Chances are that you’ll get them back with quantum computers … the “cards” won’t be quite that haptic anymore, though.
Quantum computing is all well and good, but the truly interesting computational development is the work being done on high density optical storage – or in Star Trek terms, isolinear chips.
My computer teacher back in the 1980s had a stack of blank cards he used as “hall passes” instead of the actual hall passes the rest of the school used. I’m not sure where he got them, since our school never had a punch machine, but he had boxes upon boxes of them in his basement (in fact, there’s probably still boxes of them down there, and he shuffled off this mortal coil about 5 years ago).
Oh-wih-oh!
I’d have left it, good way to show how long she’s been living in that house!
Too bad that last one isn’t “canon”, it’s utterly silly and totally badass <3
+1
I’d love to see it inserted into continuity. Maybe as a “From the Cutting Room Floor” adjunct strip?
Trying to figure out where they would have fit…is that Tigerlily Jones in the straitjacket?
I’m surprised you need to ask who’s in the straitjacket.
These are some great strips and it’s a shame they didn’t make it. I think it might be the Backstreet Boys that really dates it, though; I know someone who only gave up their CD changer last year, when the car itself finally died.
I always appreciate a good Tip badass line.
The last one, would be good as a full color wallpaper.
Tip’s line in the last thumbnail strip is very powerful. It saddens me that you didn’t include it.
Now that I’m awake, I’d like to wish everyone a very blessed Easter! 🙂
It’s rejected ideas improviste-er. A Skin-Horse art visual feaster. But where do they fit? Continuity split? Aw, who the hell cares—Happy Easter!
I’m unsure whether the “1 UP” shirt is a reference to the “7 UP” docuseries. It would make sense if this is set shortly after Tigerlily makes his new body.
Any better ideas?
“1 up” is what Mario games say when you get an extra life. Nick has gained an extra life.
Wow, yeah, I agree with all y’all about that last strip. Tip getting a good badass line is a rare and beautiful thing, and that line is excellent.
The second strip is great, too, but I can see where it might have gotten cut for not really advancing a significant plot thread or something.
Another big fan of that last strip, here. All of them, but especially that last one.
And the art in the second is pretty fantastic, too.
I only now noticed how similar Tip’s pose in the next-to-last panel above is to his stance in yesterday’s final panel. And yet the emotion being conveyed is totally opposite!
Good catch! I didn’t realize that until I looked at both strips again today.
Ohhh fuck, “I volunteered” is SUCH a good moment for Tip! Especially as an answer to the arc of humans either exploiting or pushing away their creations… Shame whatever context made that possible had to be cut. Alas, such is the creation process.
