August 2021 Wallpaper: Gothic
Shaenon: I’m still celebrating the release of my graphic novel Willowweep Manor (with art by Christopher Baldwin!), so this month I made a gothic-novel-themed wallpaper. Please enjoy the ominous atmosphere.
As usual, if you make a donation in any amount to the Skin Horse Tip Jar, or contribute any amount to our Patreon, we’ll give you a link to this wallpaper, designed for two computer desktop sizes and cell phones. Patreon contributors will continue to receive new wallpaper for the length of their contribution.
You’ll also receive this bonus August wallpaper from the archives:
Channing: And only now, as we approach the end of Skin Horse‘s run, do I realize the opportunity that I squandered by not specifically writing a gothic storyline. More’s the pity!
Howling Sweetheart is adorable.
Howling Sweetheart is adorable. I instantly “heard” the “Herald Angels” bit from that TV special… you know, right after everyone yells “Merry Christmas Charlie Manson”?!
If you ever do a Gothic one-shot, can Unity beat the crap out of Heathcliff?
WANT! Start with a leg sweep, end with Smart Unity picking her teeth! Or selecting, as the case may be…!
PLEEEEEEEEASE
Seconded! The organiser of a book group that I was in picked that book under the misapprehension that it would be romantic. I swear that if one summarised Heathcliff’s actions and presented the list to a criminal profiler, the reaction would be “yep, serial killer!”
Actually, I thought he was looking sternly off to the side. His mouth as an eye, his nose as a kind of bandanna.
I suspect that one can interpret that as my being morally deficient.
Yes, it took me a few goes to see it properly. “How can people tell what my drawings are supposed to be? They’re just lines.”
(Also, Sweetheart’s a she.)
(Also also, another month before Willowweep arrives in the UK, boo.)
Well, the top color layer does look something like a big blanket about to come down on them, rather than the horizon and gloomy sky I think it’s supposed to be. But the fun is in the foreground.
My drawing looks awesome and you people are just mean.
Love hurts.
Brains are weird, and occasionally you (generic you) inadvertently draw a duck-rabbit.
It’s had pride of place on my desktop since you released it to your Patreon, so yep!
As a child of the Pacific Northwest, I immediately recognized that top section of the sketch as a gloomy and overcast sky.
I think I missed a memo. “As we approach the end of Skin Horse’s run”?
That things would be coming to a conclusion has been in the air, so to speak, since Ira was revealed to be Mr. Green and the Skin Horse building went on the run. In fact, it’s gone on rather longer than we expected it to, but it looks like we’re heading to some sort of final showdown with A-Sig, the skin horse gang, and the bees from space.
I just re-read Willoweep yesterday. So many fun things I missed the first go-around! There’s a shout-out to birdwatchers, a hat-tip to Terry Pratchett, and.. wolf noogies!
I liked Wilhelmina going out to shout, “Oh, Wailly Wailly” for a lost love. (Can’t remember if it was “Wailly” or “Waillee”—it’s not in front of me and it’s *so* far a walk from my so-called office to my so-called bedroom where it is.)
The Skin-Horse wallpaper goes Gothic. The tropes are in place all a-swath-ic. The maiden is Tip, but Sweetheart lets rip with a howl that is so behemoth-ic.
I’m currently travelling backwards on a train, so don’t have the concentration for a full fill, but the lines “Sweetheart! It’s me, Unity, I’m so co-o-old” came into my head, so I had to share.
