Unity & Unity by Chris Baldwin
Shaenon: Chris Baldwin, my collaborator on the upcoming graphic novel Willowweep Manor and one of the few people who’s been drawing webcomics even longer than I have, was kind enough to draw this extremely accurate portrait of Unity and Mirror Universe Plant Unity. Chris has also kindly written an introduction to Skin Horse Volume 7, out in time for the holidays. Thank you, Chris!
Channing: Unity and The Great Unity are such bro-grade sisters. It really is the happiest possible extinction event.
Based on the pose and artsytle, I assumed that this was a reference to something I didn’t know about, but since you didn’t say it in the description I guess it isn’t.
The two of them must’a had a real good time off camera…
By the way: re: Channing: I thought the preferred term for dat Unity was DisUnity.
But did she not herself use the term “The Great Unity” in comic?
Rebecca said that’s what the swamp called itself after Unity amalgamated with it. I don’t think Unity ever used the term herself in the comic.
Awww…Unity is even wearing Bitey. An adorable extinction event indeed!
I don’t like the way they’re looking at us…!
Not having any reason to keep track of days, dates, time, etc….nevertheless I KNEW (intuited) that we’d get an AD today. Nobody ever said these folks weren’t first rate
illustrators and story-tellers.
The AD-insertion schedule SUCKS. You need a better team there.
There have been over 500 Sundays – evenly spaced, I might add – during the run of this comic. They always run something off-story on them. Just think of it as a helpful little reminder that it’s Sunday! and quit complaining.
Now now, just because we get high quality content six days a week, when many web comics only update on three or fewer, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t complain in the one day out of seven we get something different. I mean really, whats the point of spending time on the Internet if you can’t whine about every little annoyance?
Also amazing that someone could figure out that, like every other sunday in the run of this comic, as well as Shaennon’s other great work Narbonic, would have be a break from the story. Very impressive.
I usually dread the Sunday plot interruption, but maybe, in just this one instance, I’ll chill out and pretend we’re giving Ginnie and Nick some well-deserved time alone.
Shaenon (and latterly Jeff) has published a comic every Monday to Saturday without fail for over nineteen years. But I’m sure if you moan enough the lazy good-for-nothing will get off her backside and actually earn all the money you’re paying her.
Ya know “Sweet” Uncle Leslie,if you DON’T like the strip, there’s the door, use it!
Unity as rendered here really reminds me of Anesu from Baldwin’s comic. With half her face painted, I mean.
Also, Unity and Anesu would probably have a fantastic time together and wreak almost as much destruction as two of Unity.
I was thinking the same thing! We need a Unity and Anesu story. Throw in Mell and Bikkie, and see if anyone comes out alive.
