Very Narbonic Kickstarter Sketches
Shaenon: A few more sketches for the Narbonic Kickstarter campaign. These are all Narbonic-related, so sorry for the lack of Skin Horse characters.
Channing: On the other hand, Narbonic characters are super awesome, so there seems to me to be little need to apologize.
Is that Rosalind lower left?
Certainly looks like her.
Long time no see.
What, you mean bottom right isn’t Butch Tip’s Final Form?
It would be a strange twist indeed if Tip was somehow related to Caliban.
Mell and Caliban have a baby, then travel back in time 30 years to raise him (changing their name to Wilkin to avoid suspicion – particularly from Mell’s own parents), thus allowing Mell to play out vicariously through Tip her fantasy of sleeping with Artie.
Considering everything else we’ve seen, that really wouldn’t be all that strange.
It’s been established that he’s “Dennis” Wilkin, and it was his father’s name. Though Caliban and Mell could’a changed that, too…
That is one reason why I included the bit about changing their name.
You always have the most wonderfully awful fanfic ideas. Thank you.
🙂
Came over here to see if I could get a glimpse of ‘what today’s strip would be if’….
sorry. It’s usually the first thing I consciously seek in the morning, and week-ends are hard on me.
Your work cheers me greatly. I make no claims for my own normality, but your workings suit me right down to the ground. Thanks.
I got my books and other rewards a couple days ago. I even saved the drawing of Sweetheart on the packaging.
I got the gerbil I’ve been wanting for years on mine.
Somewhere along the way it picked up a sticker 🙁
Mine had an awfully rough trip through the postal service, but despite being dirty, the gerbil was fully intact (which is more than one can say for most of the gerbils that went through Helen’s lab).
Mine came in the mail this week! Thanks so much for sketches of both Dave and Helen!
So, if there are no Skin Horse characters pictured, that must mean that the gerbil in Helen’s hairdo is someone other than Artie? Well, Helen did always have a thing for gerbils.
Also, while we haven’t actually met them in Skin Horse, both Helen and Mell were at least partially responsible for the very existence of a couple of our favourite Skin Horse characters (although they may never have known what became of Mell’s DNA, and the existence of Super-Mell, a.k.a. U.N.I.T.Y.).
Awwww, Helen got a tattoo! NICE! Love the flowers (particularly Mel’s, which I’ll bet are all poisonous) and Caliban’s coffee-guzzling.
Mine arrived on Friday. I got Senator Robert Mongorsky addressing the senate.
If Helen and Mell are going to San Francisco, then they’re properly prepared.
Oh, thanks a lot. Now that song will be stuck in my head all day.
Since Artie appears in both strips, there is only the Narboniverse and all inhabitants are Skin Horse characters … some just working behind the scenes.
Hmm… minor caveat: they are all members of the Narboniverse, but only Artie (so far) is both a Narbonic and a Skin Horse character.
To put it from a different perspective, just because someone was living in New York in 1920 does not make them a character in a book written about 1920s New York.
Lovelace?
Good catch.
It pays to be obsessive. Leastways with reading these strips.
Helen and Mell are Skin Horse characters too. And I’m pretty sure both Mell and Caliban have made occasional background cameos in regular weekday strips in the coffee shop the Skin Horse crew goes to. Also, Unity’s brain is apparently a clone of Mell’s.
(I don’t subscribe to the theory that Nera’s mom is Mell. Other than them both being heavily-armed brunettes, nothing else really seems to match up. I think Ms. Vivaldi just has the Peanuts Adult thing going on.)
Also, Imogene Frog and her henchman Titus Misanthropie have had minor parts in both strips, and Sergio had a brief cameo in Narbonic.
Ruby, the flying laser android from St. Charlie, was a Narbonic character, as was her shapeshifting boyfriend (though I don’t recall if he actually made an appearance in Skin Horse).
Narbonic’s Foxy Cop made an appearance as Lt. Foxicopp during Grillo Parlante. Foot hasn’t actually appeared, but he got name-checked in that storyline, too.
Oh, yeah, and of course Shaenon Garrity and Andrew Farago have been regular crowd-scene filler in both strips.
It appears that I’m long overdue for a good binge-read of both comics.
Helen’s outfit strongly reminds me of an illustration of Snow White from an old (not-Disney) book – does anyone else remember that, and know the name/illustrator? I’ve been looking for it for a long time!
