Spel chek iz stoopid. It has told me that words even simpler than “monologuing” are misspelled (or merely that it doesn’t know them) — words like “automaton”, “assuage”, and “twaddle”. Spell check seems to have the vocabulary of a six-year-old.
Mine doesn’t know “velociraptor”, and thinks that perhaps I mean “velocipede”. Because yeah, that’s a much more commonly used word that “velociraptor”, in eighteen-eighty-five.
The entire OED is available online (for a price, of course). That is a much greater expanse of data than a simple spell checker. That’s approximately 230,000 words and their definitions, word origins, alternate forms, etc. Download size is only 160 MB. That’s not “an absurd amount” of anything. A single HD video on youtube is bigger than that.
“Only” 160MB.
The word list titled “british-english-insane” clocks in at 6.6MB.
Dictionaries tend to be bigger because they contain definitions of the words, not just the words and variants themselves.
The Collaborative International Dictionary of English expands to 40MB flat. But its index is only 3.8MB.
Yes, well, I used the OED as an example because, as English dictionaries go, it is undoubtedly one of the biggest. And yet, compared to other things that are stored on one’s computer or on the internet, even the OED takes up relatively little space. My point was that using data space as an argument for not including the entire lexicon in a spell checker is a pretty flimsy excuse.
Just was involved in a discussion over at GoComics involving the correct spelling of “moustache.” (Hmm. You guys must have the same spell checker. Worse than Nick’s swear filter.)
Curiously enough, there was an actor some years ago named Moustache (his given name was François-Alexandre Galipedes). Known for, and named for, his very prominent and memorable facial hair.
I think the robots are referring to their point of view, which is Unity standing on a rooftop talking. Her perception is she’s talking to Nick; theirs is that she’s talking to herself…
Actually, I’m quite relieved about this. I was beginning to worry Ari/Ira hadn’t just walked away from the party when he hijacked Nick, but done something to the ones left behind. And he still may have. Skin Horse aside from Nick and sundry others are all now conveniently gathered in Annexe One and off guard…
Hopefully Jonah is on point if danger is incoming.
No, no. First you find a madboy to analyze the pie to determine any toxins, nanotech, or other “bad stuff” that might be left in the pie as a going-away present from the Wizard. (The resident madgirl is an expert on clockwork, not bio-toxins.)
I agree, something that’s bugging me isn’t why Ira took Nick…
It’s why he felt the need to leave a party he planned.
I’m pretty sure we’re about to see some abnormal weather hit Annex One. Possibly after locking down all the entrances and exits.
Jonah being there is a wildcard for sure, but I’m still left wondering if that ear Unity lost in Nick is still listening to Nick and Ira as Ira reveals his evil plan.
I don’t see the relationship between my statement and your response: I wasn’t suggesting they don’t have the car, I was saying Nick’s probably well over the horizon by this point, so they wouldn’t be able to track him.
I would be surprised if Nera were unable to track them, even without the car. But if they do indeed have Shelby’s car, I assume that it has some tracking devices of some sort on board.
Monologuing seems a poor excuse for Nick to abandon them. (Besides, the spell check here insists “monologuing” is misspelled.)

Well, you gotta figure they haven’t loaded the *entire* dictionary into them. That’s an absurd amount of words and data space required.

Should also add that spell check keeps telling me my own name is misspelled. That’s my business, not theirs.
Too little, too late.
Here, let me close the barn door then.

I wouldn’t worry. He just left a pie for them.
Oh boy! What flavor?

Fusion
Oh, yeah. (slaps forehead)
All three nukes are together now, but in Skin Horse’s possession. That’s quite a bargaining chip.
Are you sure they’re *still* in Skin Horse’s possession? I would be completely unsurprised if Ira/Mr. Green swiped them on the way out.
If memory serves, one of them power’s Hitty.
That would have been a neat trick, considering his hands were empty when he was walking out to Nick on the roof.

For the lost ear mention
I suspect she meant “pinna”, the outer part that does not, itself, hear. At least in normal folk….
Don’t Jonah Yu and Nera have Shelby’s old flying car? The Skin-Horse gang could steal that and fly after Nick.
I don’t think he’s still in sight.
Well, they had to have gotten to the party *somehow*…
I don’t see the relationship between my statement and your response: I wasn’t suggesting they don’t have the car, I was saying Nick’s probably well over the horizon by this point, so they wouldn’t be able to track him.
Unless Unity’s aforementioned ear serves at least as a homing beacon?
I would be surprised if Nera were unable to track them, even without the car. But if they do indeed have Shelby’s car, I assume that it has some tracking devices of some sort on board.
Jonah Yu could also use his psychic powers (for lack of better words) and figure out where Nick and Ira *probably* are.
