There’s a place called Omaha, Nebraska,
in the foothills of Tennessee.
Where my sweetie told me that
someday she’d meet me at
the corner of Delancy Street and Avenue “B”.
From the shores of California to the rockbound coast of Maine
We’ll settle down in Washington D.C.
In the Heart of Omaha, Nebraska,
Where the best things in life are free in the foothills of Tennessee.
There’s a place called Omaha, Nebraska
In the foothills of Tennessee.
Each night when day is done
we watch the setting sun
and listen to the mocking bird sing Mother Machee.
When it’s showing in Alaska where the Swanee River flows
I love you like the honey likes the bee.
In the Heart of Omaha, Nebraska,
Where the best things in life are free in the foothills of Tennessee.

The reader who suggested a few days ago that Ira might be Collodi could be on to something. Compare Ira’s face in panel 2 here, to panel 4 here: http://skin-horse.com/comic/in-her-way/
I would think that Ira and Anasigma have the opposite motives from Collodi, but at this point God only knows what Ira’s real motives are. Maybe he’s Collodi’s opposite twin.
Maybe he knew Collodi? Would explain how Collodi knew not to trust Skin Horse, if he was acquainted with Ira and knew its real purpose. Ira’s certainly the right age to have known him, after all!
But do we know whether Collodi had a human daughter? The daughter he spoke of (and to) in the film the SH gang watched at Whimsy World was, in fact, the Whimsy corporation itself. (He also referred to her as his “last child”, so he apparently considered all of his creations to be his “children”.)
Not that this would preclude her from being the niece that is mentioned in the Cast page. His only mention of his niece there is that she loved the movie “The Last Starfighter”. Since Whimsy made adventure movies, it is not unreasonable to think she would like other aventure movies as well.
If Ira is indeed Collodi’s brother, it could explain why he has been masterminding this whole affair — revenge on those who lynched Collodi 50 years ago.
Well, he says that Skin Horse’s function was never to help non-humans. But he does not say that their purpose was ever to harm humans, either. Helping them was just a by-product of their job.
Skin Horse’s underlying purpose may, in fact, be to enlist non-humans, which would be more in line with Collodi’s original purpose. And now that Ira both has all the information on them, and has rendered the vast majority of the human race blind to them, that may be fairly easy to do.
I am very uncomfortable with my favorite character being in a hostage situation. I really hope someone notices Nick’s stream and lets Dr. Lee know what’s going on….
This gives me hope that Nick is just pretending the filter is active, having hacked his safeties so “buttermilk pancakes” only deactivated the swear filter…
I was re-reading the Cast page, because someone in the Comments from a couple days ago pointed out:
-The biographies are almost certainly all written by Ira
-Tip is holding that balloon in Gavotte’s picture
I didn’t find any fresh insight, but I was reminded how much I /love/ the joke in Sweetheart’s image– she’s looking at a box labeled “Files A-W”. Why that odd alphabetical collection? Because the next box of Files gets its own shadow government / paranormal TV show. (And because Sweetheart is generally more interested in the plain ol’ Files than those weird ones.)
I hadn’t picked up on the Cast pages being written by Mr. Green/Ira, but I think you’re right!
That ray gun thing in Sweetheart’s cast photo looks familiar too, but I can’t place it. Maybe it shows up somewhere in Narbonic? On the left, that’s a sewing tomato with needles sitting on a box with part of Unity’s name visible – must be a sewing kit for stitching her parts back on.
I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if Sweetheart is hiding on board. Once she realized Nick had the only copy of her files, she would have gotten very protective of him. Ira aroused her suspicions by his failure to show shock at a talking dog, too: http://skin-horse.com/comic/engage-in/
The people noticing stuff from old strips and linking them in the comments, as well as making connections to things i forgot literal years ago, are the true heroes of Skin Horse.
The filter doesn’t seem to like Ira.
Good.
Figures. The filer isn’t human either. The real question is whether it’s able to intervene in a way that would do Nick any good. >_>
Hypothetically? It can identify the “cancel” command for the other overrides, and replace every swear with that.
Pfffhahahaha, cuddle pumpkin.
Hey, you don’t get to say that word! That is our word!
Well, Ira, “fluffers” is rude… especially coming from a guy who watches as much porn as Nick does. But it’s not a swear word, so nyeah!
So where is home?
Lovetron?
Omaha, Nebraska?

Same difference.

He may have known Collodi quite well. From Clifton’s link I detect a familial resemblance.
… and somewhere in these forums it must have been mentioned that Carlo Collodi was the author of The Adventures of Pinocchio.
We know Collodi had a daughter. We also know that Ira has a niece (the cast list was written by Ira, and he mentions his niece there).
So, brothers?
But do we know whether Collodi had a human daughter? The daughter he spoke of (and to) in the film the SH gang watched at Whimsy World was, in fact, the Whimsy corporation itself. (He also referred to her as his “last child”, so he apparently considered all of his creations to be his “children”.)

Oops… typo. I hate not having an ‘edit’ button.
“But he does not say that their purpose was ever to harm non-humans, either.”
True enough. Nothing that’s been said so far indicates what *side* Ira is on.
Somewhere Keiser Söze is reading this arc and wiping a tear of admiration from his eye
Did Gavotte know about the true purpose of PSH? Also, where has Gavotte been this whole time? I feel like she might be due for a reentrance.
I am very uncomfortable with my favorite character being in a hostage situation. I really hope someone notices Nick’s stream and lets Dr. Lee know what’s going on….
Do you think Ginny being in a cage over a spike pit may inhibit her ability to help Nick?

…And now I notice that there’s also a pair of tinted spectacles in the bottom corner of Sweetheart’s cluttered storeroom. Oz imagery?
Ooh, good eye on the alphabetized files.
I think the balloon Tip is holding in Gavotte’s profile is a Winnie-the-Pooh reference.
I hadn’t picked up on the Cast pages being written by Mr. Green/Ira, but I think you’re right!

It looks like “The End” – so why does it also feel like foreshadowing? Might these characters appear in some future convoluted story?

Cut to “Ira, I found your balloon!”
Will Ira and Nick get respect when they get home?
Ira demands respect from A-Sig, and gets it on threat of extirpation. Nick, not so much.

Well, it’s just the way my mind works with material I’ve obsessed over.
It helps to have read through the entire archives well over a hundred times. “Obsessed” is putting it mildly.
Next thing to be revealed is that Ira is also founder of Whimsey….
When will Ira’s hair turn orange?
