Adventurous ABCs Ahoy
Shaenon: Another illustration for The Adventurous ABCs, my alphabet book with Jess Nevins. Just a few days left on the Kickstarter campaign! This here is the Y page.
Channing: Ha! With the comic title, bet you thought this was going to be dedicated to “a”! Well, we did “a” already. And I’m fairly sure Shaenon and Jess don’t dedicate multiple pages to upper- and lower-case versions.
Help make this thing happen!
So yacht, yellow jacket, yellow.
Yangtze River Dolphin
Why?
no no, Y
Why not?
I thought they were yellowfin tuna. Also a yellow jacket by a yellow yacht making a yawl.
I’ve just realised, that’s not actually a yellowjacket. It’s a painting of a yellowjacket. The yawing yellow yacht is called Yellowjacket.
You’re right.
Why isn’t she yawning?
Because it isn’t every day that you see a pod of dolphins so close up, even in areas where they are quite common.
I was thinking that the yacht might be a yawl as the mast looks far enough back to be a second mast. I just couldn’t tell if it was a second mast (making it a yawl or a ketch) or a main mast (in which case, Shaenon needs to work on drawing her sailboats, even cutters don’t have the main mast that far aft).
From the ministry of useless information
Look again. She’s standing with one foot on the bowsprit.
Which actually makes the rigging backward . . .
I’m not sure why the girl is dressed as a 1920s flapper, and I can’t track down a “y” name for it. Enlightenment?
From the kickstarter page: “Y is for Yaffa And Her Yellow Yacht on the Yangtze”. So maybe the outfit is incidental?
Yaffa yawls her yacht, the Yellowjacket, on the Yangtze among the yammering yahoos.
