Future Cover (Maybe)
Shaenon: Possible cover for the next Couscous Collective anthology, FUTURE, slated to come out… sometime in the future, amazingly enough. This is my first Couscous cover, and I’m not sure if I like it or if I should try something else. Either way, enjoy!
Channing: I personally find it to be agreeably trippy.
Cuter than the Campbell Kids playing with puppies… Speaking of puppies, I hope you do another Sweetheart Puppies wallpaper; I missed out on the first…
Love it! Clones?
They appear to be identical in phenotype, but not in age. So, yes, probably clones, but perhaps gestated naturally rather than in artificial wombs.
Extremely cute, however they came to be.
No, wait– it really IS a baby tree! Look at the buds. Adorable!
I sit corrected.
Reminds me of a song from a truly ancient Jefferson Starship album (“Blows Against the Empire”) called ‘The Baby Tree.’
Written by the wonderful Rosalie Sorrels. Until I saw this note I didn’t even know Starship had covered it.
It was a Paul Kantner concept album from 1970, before Airplane broke up and Starship was really formed. Hippies steal the first interstellar craft and go out to create a new world.
I still have my big brother’s old copy.
I like it.
It makes me think of one of my favorite books, Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s Herland.
I thought the same thing! My mother used to sing that to us…
“There’s an island way out in the sea, where the babies they all grow on trees…”
That’s the one! I used to sing it to the kids I babysat. Hope I get this right, I’m typing it from memory.
There’s an island way out in the sea, where the babies they all grow on trees
And it’s jolly good fun to swing in the sun, but you gotta watch out if you sneeze, sneeze, gotta watch out if you sneeze.
Yeah, you gotta watch out if you sneeze, all swinging up there in the breeze;
If you’re liable to cough you might very well fall off and tumble down splat on your knees, knees, tumble down splat on your knees!
And when the stormy winds wail and the breezes blow high in a gale
There’s a curious dropping and flopping and plopping as fat little babies just hail, hail, fat little babies just hail!
And the babies lie there in a pile, and the grownups they come after while;
And they always pass by all the babies that cry and pick only babies that smile, smile, pick only babies that smile…… even triplets and twins if they’ll smile.
Saturn’s Titan?
If so, it’s undergone substantial terraforming.
I think the gaps you draw in teeth are too cute
