SVCC Cosplay
Shaenon: All my love to the couple who went as the Ultimate Warrior and Macho Man Randy Savage. And thanks to everyone at the Silicon Valley Comic Con! I had a blast.
Channing: Cosplay will never not weird me out at least a little, because of my deep, nearly-instinctual distrust of costumes, but I have to admit that some of these sound phenomenal.
Yeah, I wouldn’t be able to say no, either, Nick.
Now put HER in the Leia outfit… He’d get earwax burns on his shoulders!
Also, thanks! Well, not so much for the man-Leia one, but for the rest…!!!
At least it wasn’t overweight Sailor Moon Crossplayer, or Man-Faye. Some costumes should NEVER be worn by certain people…
Hmm… like men shouldn’t wear dresses, women shouldn’t wear pants, and cats shouldn’t wear maid outfits?
Just because you and your peers may find someone’s choice of clothing distasteful doesn’t make it wrong or unacceptable. If you want the freedom to not be a slave to others’ opinions, you’ll need to learn to grant others the same freedom from your own opinions.
Earwax Burns?
He’d overheat so much that burning hot earwax would drip out of his ears and onto his shoulders.
Questions: What does he mean by “since when do I have a ” does he mean his hat? or girlfriend? What does Virginia mean by what they have to do now? Also what is Greaser Robin, Dream & Cat Dream, and Macho Man Randy Savage & the Ultimate Warrior? I know I can just look those up I just felt like asking, I know Randy Savage is some random celebrity I heard mentioned.
Randy “Macho man” savage and “The Ultimate Warrior” were Professional wrestler in the WWF/WWE in the 80’s and 90’s, sadly both have passed away.
Dream is Morpheus, “Dream of the Endless”, main character of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman. In the story “(A?) Dream of a Thousand Cats” he appears as a cat (to other cats).
I believe “greaser Robin” is simply Batman’s Robin reimagined as a member of the greaser subculture.
A female greaser Robin is possibly a reference to Babs Gordon in the Elseworld Thrillkiller ’62 (a sequel to Batgirl & Robin: Thrillkiller which had a male greaser Robin).
“Since when do I have a…” is girlfriend, since it’s followed by his shock that Ginny is the Harley Quinn in question.
What Virginia thinks they have to do now is couples cosplay. What Nick thought she meant is another question…
Looks like Somebody had a good time!
I certainly had a good time reading this. Thanks Shaenon and Jeff!
Dr. Lee brings the destrucity!
Suddenly I realize that of course Nick’s tshirt would change according to what he thinks
thank you for all of this, and for man-leia specifically

I suppose it all takes place inside Nick’s brain inside his helicopter…
This needs to be a regular thing!
My hometown had its first ever comic con last year. The cosplay population was roughly 40% Harley Quinn, 40% Deadpool, 20% “other.” My favourite was Wonder Woman with a pushchair, in which sat a tiny 1960s Robin wearing Hulk hands.
I really ought to know the @!*# reference but all I can pull up from memory is a jumble of Rick Veitch Maximortal, Grant Morrison Invisibles, and Alan Moore V for Vendetta, leading nowhere. And it’s difficult to Google.
It matches my memory of Maximortal.
Couples cosplay is the greatest!
My sadness that my husband will never (not if you paid him a million pounds) cosplay the Tenth Doctor to my Donna (whom I have actually cosplayed) is tempered by the knowledge that my children would make an adorable mini-Ten and River. Though I haven’t made them do it yet.
You know, it’s not just for lovers anymore! My brother and I want to go as The Master (Anthony Ainley version) and Davros, since he’s in a wheelchair due to fibromyalgia and arthritis and we’re both big Doctor Who fans.
