Monster of the Week Returns (For a Limited Time Only!)
Shaenon: Time to shamelessly plug the temporary return of my X-Files recap comic Monster of the Week. I’ll be covering the new six-episode season. This here is a preview of tomorrow’s strip.
If you enjoy this and other fine products from Shaenon K. Garrity and Jeffrey C. Wells, please consider subscribing to our Patreon. Thanks so much!
Channing: And tell your friends! Seriously, as both a Shaenon and an X-Files fan, I want more “Monster of the Week” as much as anyone who fits both those descriptors. But there’s only so much I can contribute to my own Patreon without feeling silly.
I’ll look in, but it’ll never take the place of “Skin Horse” in my heart—I never watched “The X-Files” beyond clips and such, didn’t like the restless 1990s paranoia and the un-FBI-like behavior of the characters. (This is the second time this week I’ve had to say that somewhere online.)
My obsessive reading of the Narbonic books makes me want more of that…I keep wondering what happened to the intelligent hamsters, and, somehow, felt a wedding between Dave and Helen was in order…
You can see the wedding in the bonus strips at the end of the online archive.
Or am I thinking of something else? I’m half asleep atm.
Actually, it was a commission. I’m not sure it ever appeared in the strip proper, even on the sunday features:

Must’ve missed it; haven’t done much online archive searching. Are those people in the front Dave’s parents?
I presume so. I don’t think we’ve seen them anywhere else.
If you look closely, you might spot a few other cameos.
Dave’s mother, probably. I’m pretty sure the guy is Bill.
I upped my Patreon pledge a bit. Yay for the return of Monster of the Week!
A while ago, I set up an index page for MotW so I could find particular episodes; it’s at http://kontext-away.com/MotW.html .
The conspiracy stuff put me off of the X-Files for a long time (though I have friends who really love it), but I eventually got into it by watching a bunch of the better Monster of the Week-style episodes. Shaenon and Jeffrey’s list of favorite episodes (posted on the Skin Horse site many Sundays ago) is a good jumping off point, for those who are interested:

My first thought was “Huh, I didn’t know Gillian Anderson was on Childrens Hospital.”
