I love these… and the Skin Horse logo on #1 looks a lot less like an angry one-eyed clown…
Still hoping for Unity the Menace and Li’l Silverfish… maybe Silverfish Fosdick…
Could somebody please help with a “key” for these? I’ve identified Snoopy and, following earlier discussion of it, Doonesbury. And I guess there should be a Cathy one? Presumably the last one, which seems to have the right drawing style.
I think first and second is Peanuts, fourth is Doonesbury and fifth is Cathy. But what is number 3?
Pogo?
Looks like Tigerlily is sort of done Pogo-ish, although the font is nowhere close. Some of the Animal Comics and one of the Pogo Books had the character presented in front of some torn paper laid across the cover’s background.
I’d still say so, specifically this one, if the link I put up works.

Still trying to figure out the “Dogs and Pervos” source. Not Love Is…, surely…
As s854 pointed out last Sunday, it’s a Nick quote from Big Bad Wolves: http://skin-horse.com/comic/evidence-of-his/
If you mean the book, it’s one of the “Happiness is a Warm Puppy” set.
Yep, 5 is Cathy. Compare to this.
I’m pretty sure 3 is Pogo, specifically the first book. Although, as someone pointed out, Pogo never did the “use a quote as the title” thing.
I remember paying a premium to a collector for a copy of it.
Alas…I’ve got chunks of “Pogo” from one reprint or another, but mostly from the fifties…every time they started reprinting, I lost track somewhere. Fantagraphics is up to Volume Three in another attempt, but volumes have been delayed. (Besides, I have reservations about their annotations—they don’t reach Berke Breathed condescension, but they didn’t seem to know what “ETAOIN SHRDLU” was…)
Thanks for the help, everyone!
I love the Peanuts cover, but I keep coming back to that Doonesbury one. I’ve never seen anyone copy Trudeau that accurately. Out of context, running across that cover in a bookstore, I would totally think I had found an old collection I had somehow missed over the decades. Bravo!
Happiness is a Warm Puppy was easy for me – I got that one when I was about 7 and loved it.
Not familiar enough with Happiness is a War Puppy or Pogo; but got the other three. That Doonesbury one in particular is bang on.
