Merope–great name! According to our friend Wikipedia, there are a bunch of Meropes in Greek mythology. Which one is the cobra named after, and who named her?
I think she’s named after Merope Gaunt, a minor character featured in a Flashback in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The significance there is probably that Merope Gaunt was a descendant of Salazar Slitherin, and therefore a parcel mouth (she could talk to snakes), as well as the mother of Tom Riddle (Voldemort).
If J.K. Rowling named a character who could talk to snakes “Merope,” then there is likely one figure in classical Greek literature named Merope that could talk to snakes or was transformed into one. The woman goes crazy with the literary references.
Weren’t there other cobras in Merope’s little group? If they were all girls, particularly if there were seven of ’em, I’d say she was named after the one in the Pleiades…
Huh. I’d think Sweetheart would have noticed (by smell) if Mr. Silvers is not in fact human, but come to think of it, given who she works with, she might not consider it worth mentioning if he isn’t.
(I doubt he’s an A-Sig sleeper agent: they’d know all this stuff already, right?)
Darn you, Mr. SIlvers I thought you were a side character put in to fill a crowd. Now your plot relevant and I have to figure out your loyalty and/or agenda. I may have to archive binge for this. Where did he first show up? Was he part of the maintenance crew trapped by the crystals?
Speaking of archive binges, is there any way to get to an old strip other than by using the select chapter menu and then using the Prev/Next links one by one to get to the middle of the chapter?
Me, too…I’ve been printing ’em out and putting them in a spiral notebook, while awaiting their collection in “Skin Horse Volume Next.” But that’d be more convenient for immediate reference.
Didn’t know Cute Baby Cobra had a name—didn’t know she could talk, either—or, for that matter, that she was a “she.” Didn’t know Shelby’s last name was “Silvers,” either.
This might be better than you think. Shelby Silvers might be a sleeper agent, but who says he’s Anasigma’s sleeper agent? Gavotte might have given him instructions on what to do while her mind re-forms. Data collected might mean new chess moves in the background to turn this around yet.
Dr. Lee told Unity that A-Sig ran the Institute in a Dramatic Reveal back in Idaho, in the mountain fastness of the Notaries Public. But that’s Unity for you…

So does Shaenon, for that matter. How could she resist a twofer.

Perhaps the cobra was named by the silverfish, as ‘La Merope’ is indeed an Italian libretto of some repute.
i think moustachio learned something…
That he likes big butts?

Ira in an incredibly lifelike mask!
Violet was able to fool Sweetheart by wearing scent, I’m sure Silvers’d be able to do it too (assuming he’s not human).

yep and he looks like he’s going to the basement the silver fish are probably biding there time.

Underneath the date, underneath the byline, it says “Chapter: Mixed-Up Files”. Click that, and you go to a page with all the strips from that chapter.
Thanks, Zyzzyva, you’ve just given me back hours of my life!
we are all grateful Zyzzya
Thanks! I used to know that, I think, but I forgot.
Maybe someday, if we are all very good, buy lots of books, and donate, Narbonic and Skin Horse, et al. will be available like *this*… http://tangent128.name/depot/toys/freefall/freefall-flytable.html

HOLY SHIT. I could’ve used this knowledge in the past….. Thanks! A blessing upon all your camels!

That the cobras could talk was kinda the first thing we knew about them. It was a long time ago, though.
Yeah, I found ’em, poking through Skin Horse Volume One again…forgot they were one of the, er, “mutant tribes?” living in Skin Horse HQ basement.
Okay, this isn’t good

Okay, I thought he would wind up being “Shelby Cobra.”
He’s a man-suit filled with intelligent silverfish!
After reading too many Questionable Content strips, I now can’t stop pronouncing ‘Shelby’ as ‘Shebly’ inside my head. Just realized that…..
Fnord!
Gezundheit.
How did you post a blank post?
I’m thinking there’s a new player in the game…
Or an old player come ’round again.
