The Lux
Shaenon: Another work in progress, this is a page from a graphic novel pitch. It’s a sort of ghost story, but not really, set at a classic movie palace. I love old movie theaters as much as I love old movies.
The artist is the amazing Tina Kim. Check out her art on the award-winning comic Bandette right here.
Channing: When Shaenon was trying to help me with writing graphic novel pitches, she gave me this pitch as an demonstrative example, so I know what goes on next, neener neener neener. I am needless to say super excited to see this in fully-realized form.
Thought it was a leftover from last summer’s Jonah-Yu-and-Nera road trips…
Being an old celluloid fan who did film programming for SF/F conventions on 16mm, I heartily approve.
Whoops… AIUI, at least in Santiera (related to Voudoun), pink is *not* for love — love spells would use a yellow candle. I don’t know what pink is actually for, but then I assume they don’t either.
Don’t know about Voudou either, but as a Pagan (Celtic path, basically less strict reconstructionist) pink is a perfectly reasonable color for love spells. Something to look up very specifically for each religion, if it matters for the story.
They look like the main characters from Girls with Slingshots.
…In panel 3 the one on the left kind of looks like Jonah.
Also, wanting to contact the spirit world and wanting to go to the spirit world are two different things.
