Story Sketches
Shaenon: These are for another project that has nothing to do with Skin Horse. I’m just posting them because Jeff likes lemurs.
Channing: Oh man. Please let this be a thing that actually exists. I will buy all the copies. All of them.
Lemar? I thought that was a raccoon. So, what’s the project called?
Google “lemur.” You’re in for a treat.
Quite a fancy flapper.
Well now that we’ve seen one we have got to have a lemur in Skin Horse.
It is to be hoped, yes. Meanwhile, one did make a brief appearance in Narbonic.
That lady seems to have a drinking problem
Really? She seems quite competent at it to me?
Is the lemur’s name Pag?
I put a lot of lemurs in my stories for Jeff’s entertainment.
Is that a halo? Regardless, keep us in the loop about this other project. We might want to read it.
Yeah, I took it for a strange hat at first, but, now, it does look like a halo. Oughta be an interesting back story.
Now I’m wanting to watch the “Ah! My Goddess” anime again.
Yes, Shaenon, keep us in the loop. We might indeed want to read this other project–in the same sense that the Titanic might indeed be a little damp.
For just a moment I thought Jeff was going to be continuing Mundamentia One :(. Ah well, lemur!
I keep meaning to do things. At this point I’ve been away long enough it might require a full reboot, however. I got tangled up in a story way beyond my ability to tell at the time, I’m afraid.
That’s why you go tell a bunch of other, possibly related stories until you’ve developed the skill at story telling to actually tell it.
That’s how you go from a cycle of fun pulpy space romances to Crystal Soldier/Crystal Dragon.
Note: Do read the rest of the series before you read Crystal Soldier or Crystal Dragon, because then you get to read it all again, actually knowing where all of it came from.
I presume the similarity between the lemur’s tail and the chap’s scarf is not accidental. And yes, I’d be interested in knowing more about this project, it looks intriguing.
Apocalyptic Paris? They look somewhat French to me…
Looks like Joan of Arc to me. With a lemur. Set in the post-apocalyptic ’20s. Sign me up!
I thought of Sainte Jeanne d’Arc, as well. It’s the combination of the halo and the stake, I think.
The martini and attitude also made me think of Dorothy Parker.
Her hairdo, martini and attitude made me think of Phryne Fischer. If you haven’t seen her (Aussie-made) tv show, you’re in for a treat. 🙂
(TUNE: “Bye Bye, Blackbird”, Ray Henderson & Mort Dixon)
Pretty primate fuzzy things,
Great big eyes, and tails with rings …
I like lemurs!
Flapper girl, exotic pet …
Nineteen-twenties vibe I get …
I like lemurs!
Beast-men burn her at the stake, so meanie!
No concern, she’s having a martini!
Mister Wells is all aglow!
“Just shut up and take my dough!”
Lemurs … we like!
(Tune: Fever by … Little Willie John originally, apparently)
Shaenon’s drawing a new project,
With a lemur like the one in Trash.
When Jeff sees the sketches,
He says “Shaenon, please take my cash,”
She’s drawing lemurs, for her new thing,
Lemurs in Narbonic too.
Lemurs, with their ring-tails,
Lemurs are really cute.
His version sold betterthan Peggy Lee’s, but got next-to-no airplay, I’ve heard…
That first sketch is the most ridiculously beautiful thing I’ve seen in a long time.
Y’know, I can see traces of drawings on the other side again. You guys in need of a heavier grade of scrap paper? (I like what I can see of the squirrel with the acorn, though.)
A Gif for Jeff (and anyone else who may enjoy it).

I’m not sure whether there are anti-spambots looking at the comments, so remove the obvious munging.
There is always this period of fuzzy image on your pencil/pen drawings, kind of a “guess what it really is” game. I never win.
