Oho! Details are now visible.
Jonah just doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut, does he?
I think it’s smart. She would have found out when the bill came anyway. Lying would have only made it worse down the road.
Plus, I think he knows that he’s still not ready yet for that kind of relationship. Seeing the future has it’s benefits and all, so having her full support this early on may have actually been more of a liability than a help.
I thought he stopped knowing what would happen next once he stopped reliving his six hours at Anasigma.
This implies otherwise: http://skin-horse.com/comic/todays-comic-1019/
My interpretation of that strip was that he got one sudden flash-forward of his future, not that he’s still bouncing around in time.
Interpretations can differ, of course.
I’m going with one last flash forward, but I’m also saying that from what he saw he knows now what a real relationship entails.
So while he may want a relationship with Nera, he knows that there are steps that need to be taken first, steps that will happen in time when both Nera and he are ready. Trying to jump the gun could just mess things up so why risk it? They’re both still kids so enjoy it while it lasts.
“[…]emerged from the experience with a somewhat unpredictable and unreliable ability to catch occasional glimpses of the future due to the aforementioned trans-dimensional energy exposure[…]”
From here. It pays to keep up with supplemental info.
That has nothing to do with being able to literally see the future (the answer being depending on how you intrepret the arc-ending comic, as a note).
Jonah is exercising a different superpower: Common Sense.
Especially since he believes he’ll be spending a lot of time around Nera in the future. No use pissing her mom off any more than absolutely necessary.
and apparently absolutely necessary includes credit card fraud for pointless sidequests?
That ring, or those rings, on her fingers, is bugging me. Is it her right hand or left hand that we see? If she turned around between panels, what is the significance of having the rings? Is she a member of some secret cult, like Aes Sedai?
Also, this art style is growing on me.
Yes – Another vote here for Vincent doing a strip of his own! (Huge undertaking, I know. And I’ll be delighted to see the inimitable Shaenon back.)
I think we’re seeing her right hand. In the first panel, she’s facing us; in the second panel, she’s turning around (and her thumb falls out of frame under the coat as she turns). By the third panel, she’s facing Jonah.
Classic text, great art!
Also, ring is on right hand… married in Europe… of India?
I figure she’s a widow, since there’s been no mention of a husband.
She probably ate him
One hopes he was polite enough to return the favor.
Don’t blow your chance, Jonah. Now’s the time to ask for Nera’s hand in marriage.
I just really want to know what that tiny green thing in the third panel, that may or may not have a face on one end is. Is it a gecko trying to sneak into her luggage?
I want to know what that is, too, LogicMouse! Small lizard? Large-ish insect? Cricket? Something else?
Consider the setting. Start at something else and work your way backwards towards more sane possibilities, and you’ll probably get to the correct option sooner.
I’ll save you the trip. It’s a gecko. They’re everywhere in Hawaii. Thought I’d just throw that in there for kicks.
That is a great touch, Vincent.
