Channing: And thus concludes our guest cartoonist’s story about disturbingly-adorable big-eyed millipedes who were just too good for the cruel, cruel world they found themselves in. Hope you enjoyed!
Back to my words, one way or another, tomorrow; and then just two more weeks after that until Shaenon’s triumphant return to full scripting and art duties. I, for one, am super-jazzed, which is like a normal jazzed that got bit by a radioactive awesome.
Thank you, Channing, for the opportunity to try my hand at a comic strip and thank you for being awesome. I would also like to thank everyone else for their comments, critiques, and compliments. This was a great learning experience for me and also quite fun. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing your art, Artaban! I preferred the gentler ending. 🙂 Though I just noticed the mite leaving with a hat and suitcase, hah. 🙂
is she getting any sleep?
Probably not very much, no (mother of two here). If she’s really going to be back in two weeks I salute her!
Well… this was unexpectedly dark.
If it’s a symbiotic relationship, then it’s not a parasite. (By definition.)
Yep. A symbiont and a parasite are different things. Though which is what isn’t always obvious. 😉
(As for the symbiote/symbiont thing, I actually met Harry Stubbs a few times.)
What I learned in school was that symbiosis is just a relationship between different organisms- the categories include parasitism (one benefits, one is harmed), commenalism (one benefits, one is unnaffected), and mutualism (both benefit), the last one being what people usually imply with ‘symbiosis’.
I have no idea what has been happening. Was that centipedes vs millipedes?

[CHORUS:]
Centipedes and millipedes,
One is striving for peace, and one just feeds!
One has mandibles happy, smiley,
While the
Other bleeds!
Annex One,
The quest for peace is done
Before it’s begun!
Either walk away,
Or you’ll be prey!
Centipedes …
Each builder needs material,
Build a birdhouse so fine,
And then they will dine!
[repeat CHORUS]
Millipede innards…yum!
it’s an alternate explanation for why basement millipedes are “now non-existant” (alternate to “they walked off into the sunset”)
