When she woke up, some French guy was kissing his way up her arm and murmuring weird endearments. She had to run out of there triple quick, which is why she is grumpy now.
Shaenon, does this imply that you don’t get to see previews and that the guest artists’ works are as much a delightful surprise to you as they are to us, or are you just showing general appreciation?

Give you extra appendages and X-ray eyes!
Yes, it’s magic! What they say is true,
That working for WhimsyCorp will ruin you!
It’s gonna be a normal job, this lady thinks …
She’s finding two weeks later that it really stinks!

If OSHA should investigate, she’ll ask those fools,
”Who went and changed the flippin’ radiation rules?”

I would have to disagree, it’s not so much bad science fiction as merely the hybrid variant I like to think of as “Science Fantasy”. Though I suppose “Futuristic Fantasy” might be better.
In a mad science setting, radiation (often unrelated to anything existing in our universe: see, N-rays, Energon radiation, Berthold rays) can do pretty much anything.
Please, Star Trek has been using radiation magic for over half a century. The REAL magic, however, is how it is used to create or resolve plots. I think this special radiation is only given off by narritivium, tho.
I am amused by the croissants. And I love the way Jonah’s hair is drawn in panel 3.
When she woke up, I bet she raised a huge stink.

Anything = magic = bad science fiction.
Nah, magic = fantasy, period.
Don’t forget the corollary to Clarke’s Third Law, that any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from technology.
Exactly.
So it’s sufficiently advanced radiation?
I’m dubbing it the SA-radiation.
