Shaenon: A severed head quoting “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” is so specifically me, comedy-wise, that I feel a little guilty about exposing other people to it.
Channing: Unused “Skin Horse” gag: opening a first panel with the line “…and so I said, ‘No, really, what’s a cephalo for?'”
See, because “cephalophore,” and it’s a pun, and… oh, skip it.
What’s a cephalo for? Why, to catch a henway, of course…
Thanks for making me smarter, Jeff, although I’m a little surprised to learn people carrying around their own heads was common enough that someone felt the need to coin a word for it. It’s like my Spanish class, where one of our vocabulary words was “atropellar,” which means to run over someone i.e. with your car. This did not make me want to stroll the boulevards of Barcelona.
It’s not so much common in real life as it is in statues of martyred saints and the like.
That…was actually very reassuring to learn. Thank you.
I’m a little embarrassed to admit that it took me a second to realize you were talking about the head-in-a-basket thing. I briefly wondered just how many saints were martyred by getting run over.
But I *loved* the severed head quoting “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?” LOVED it! Remember, the right people will get it.
K.t. reminds me of Tai from QC. Must be the glasses.
