Skin Horse Tarot by Sam Dyuaaxchs
Shaenon: Look at this! Sam Dyuaaxchs has assembled a Tarot deck of Skin Horse images, selected “by meaning about what the tarot cards mean, looking about like the tarot cards look, being completely wrong in a way that amused me, or being a panel too wonderful to leave out whether it had anything to do with a tarot card or not.” Thank you so much! I’ll leave it to the readers to determine how they all fit together.
Channing: Oh my gosh! Thanks, Sam! This is great! Also, I get a suit named after me, which is boss. (Shaenon will speak at length on my sadistic tendencies.)
OK, I’m ready to back the Kickstarter campaign for the Skin Horse Tarot Deck right now.
The best part is that I can readily identify the suits.
Hm, i could
Sorry, hit go too soon.
I could resize them to fit four on a page and make them available as a PDF. Then anyone who wanted to play taroc (sic) (pretty similar to Bridge) or otherwise plumb the darkest depths of Skin Horse mojo could print them on cardstock and cut them apart. I think there have been many Sunday features that would make excellent backings.
Since it’s Shaenon and Jeffrey’s work, no Kickstarter, I’ll do it out of the evillness of my heart.
If you’re actually doing this, I should note that the Hierophant should in fact go after the Emperor. (Or is that one of those disputed ones like Strength and Justice?)

(TUNE: “Hello, Goodbye”, The Beatles)
See them lie
In each row,
See, some guy
Made Skin Horse Tarot!
[CHORUS:]
Ta-rot!
Come feast your eye
On Skin Horse Tarot!
Tarot, Tarot!
Some crazy guy
Wants you to try
Skin Horse Tarot!
Unity
And GODOT,
Tip and Lee,
And old Moustachio!
[repeat CHORUS]
From each scene,
You should know
What they mean
When laid out in tableau!
[repeat CHORUS]
Valerie Kaplan, I think you’re right, and so does Wikipedia.
I’m up to the eighth page and resisting the urge to infodump.
Oh this is just BRILLIANT!!!!
Tune: “Daisy Bell”
There is a woman who deals in brains,
Ginny, Ginny,
First thing I do once I’m off this train,
I shall find Ginny Lee
Whether the gerbil is foe or friend
Sometimes it’s hard to see
But I have a duty, I must defend
The beautiful Ginny Lee.
Ginny, Ginny, give us your answer true
My head’s spinny, but is it him or you?
I must get you back from Artie
You know I love a party.
So, smartly dressed,
I’ll take the best
That the bicycle man can do.
Damn it, that was meant for yesterday’s strip.
Very nice. Welcome to the filking club 😀
Want it.
Want it.
Want it.
…and Thank You! Sam for giving hope to those of us whose creative urges far outstrip their ability to render them.
Here’s a first pass: http://goo.gl/VnJhPZ
I got caught up in working out how to convert to PDF and forgot to make the text visible. Suggestions welcome! Please let me know if something doesn’t work. I will probably add a background and/or drop shadow to the card titles.
Next time I reread, I think I might do a Sunday features version.
I have not tested the printing, but some cropping will happen. Hopefully the gutters will be enough. For people who have black and white printers only, I’m extra sorry for using yellow title text. A future version will be more accessible.
Considering what Shaenon did to her characters in Narbonic and Li’l Mell, I thought she was the sadistic one on the team.
Arts Cow!
@Channing: Oooh, baby! Whip me, beat me, make me read your webcomics, nyao!
(Why yes, I am a kinky little kitty, why do you ask? -_^)
Shoot, I can only identify about 3/4 of these. Clearly I need to do some rereading.
