More Kickstarter Sketches
More sketches from the Kickstarter drive. Here’s Tigerlily Jones, working on one of the giant robots she doesn’t get to build anymore:
And Dr. Lee. Believe it or not, this is not the only request I received for Dr. Lee dressed as her Warcraft character. I went for a sort of Korean paladin look here.
Dr. Lee was the most-requested sketch. Eventually I started getting creative and drawing things like this:
I…I’m sorry, Dr. Lee.
Channing: Oh, c’mon. I bet she likes this sort of attention.
That robot. Those eyes :O
also that paladin picture is possibly the best thing ive ever seen
Yeah… now we know who built the Iron Giant. Of course, I guess we already knew, we just hadn’t seen it before.

Yes. Still alive. Sucked into an alternate reality of WORK and CHILD-REARING and BILL-PAYING…
(TUNE: “Pinball Wizard”, The Who)
Each morning, when I wake up,
I log on to “Skin Horse”!
I really like the artwork!
(And writing, too, of course)
But Ginny as a pin-up,
She palpitates my heart!
That crazy Cal. cartoonist
Sure draws some great nose art!
Now Doctor Lee’s the lady
That readers love the best!
Yeah, Jeffrey writes her dialog
And Shaenon does the rest!
She draws the bonus sketches
For projects to Kick-Start!
That crazy Cal. cartoonist
Sure draws some great nose art!
Well, she’s a Black Ops Bombshell
She’s painted on a plane!
;A Black Ops Bombshell
Who swears she’s not insane!
How does not go crazy?
I don’t know!
Some day, she may crack!
Doc Lee’s a neurosurgeon,
Experiments so sick!
But she can take a time-out
To play X-Box with Nick!
See her Warcraft character
Dressing for the part!
That crazy Cal. cartoonist
Sure draws some great nose art!
I still should be
Asleep at this hour,
But now I gotta go
And take an ice-cold shower!
Bravo! I’m applauding and throwing roses in your general direction!
im stealing the roses, and presenting them to him myself, because i am both cheap and a fan of his songs
I am blushing and thanking both of you and hoping my wife doesn’t see us.
Don’t get me wrong, I love trhe sketch I got of Ginny and Tigerliliy, but that one on the plane fuselage … hot day-um!
I really do hope you are keeping scans of these sketches. It could become bonus fodder for one of the later books.
Even better – you might be able to flip thru the proverbial stack and give yourself ideas for future sub-plots and side-stories.
As a builder of WWII airplane models, that Dr. Lee nose-art makes me smile. I don’t suppose that you’d be willing to turn it into a T-shirt, would you?
I’ve always wondered.. Since Tigerlily is banned from building giant robots, can’t she just build a lot of smaller robots that can combine into a bigger one?
Like a crazy clockwork Voltron!
I do believe that was brought up at the time of the Adventure of the Notaries, and the Authors didn’t rule it out.
Voltron! Form blazing Funk!
Hey, it’s the bombshell art I got! You’re all jealous now, aren’t you?
Yes. Yes I am.
Dr. Lee is cute there in that first one. Nick is cute there in that first one. Dr. Lee and Nick are cute yet oddly distubing there in that first one. Not sure why. Maybe it’s that Nick looks about 14 every time he’s drawn in his human body without the VR helmet.
Tigerlily really should know better than to put her bell-bottomed leg into a cavity full of clockwork. I guess that’s a symptom of being a funky-mad scientist.
you know, I can totally see Nick having that bottom drawing painted on his fuselage as nose art…
