Skin Horse Pitch, Part Two
Shaenon: Continuing the email from last Sunday…
Skin Horse has a staff of five:
— Tip is a transvestite psychologist and the department’s human liaison. He has a doctorate in research psychology which technically qualifies him to work with nonhuman intelligences, but his actual job is far from prestigious; he’s basically a secretary and go-fer, dispatched to do things the other members of the staff can’t do, or can’t do without attracting a lot of attention. He is perfectly at peace with his preference for women’s clothing and generally well-adjusted, at least in his own estimation.
— Unity is one of the department’s two field operatives. She is a Frankenstein monster created from a patchwork of body parts. She’s very strong and a little trigger-happy. Sort of the Mell of the group. Inasmuch as her face is black on one side and white on the other, with a column of thick black stitches down the middle, she cannot easily pass for human except under very bad lighting.
— Sweetheart is Unity’s partner, a talking dog. A big furry dog, like a Samoyed. She’s the sensible, down-to-earth member of the duo. I have the idea in the back of my head that Sweetheart was created by a kindly Canadian mad scientist in an attempt to conquer America with a race of super-dogs.
More next week…
Joseph Osako (schol-r-lea) says: Sad transvestite in the snow?
Aaron Shades (prof_tinker) says:
‘cannot pass for human except under very bad lighting’
I’ve had friends like that.
So It Begins (soitbegins) says:

Nobby Nobbs!
Elaine Corvidae (elaine_corvidae) says: I’m guessing the Canadian scientist didn’t succeed because he was responsible and had Sweetheart fixed before he could use her to create his army?
Amy Fiori (amy82986) says:
It’s … a little scary that of the five of them (counting Gavotte and Moustachio), the hairy guy in the dress is the normal-looking one who doesn’t attract attention.
I like it!
