Tip Dressed Up: Ozma
Shaenon: I probably shouldn’t share this sketch, since I might actually use this outfit in the strip at some point, and OMG SPOILERS. But what the hell. As many readers have by now noted, there’s a strong Oz influence in Skin Horse, but I swear that’s not the only thing going on, so readers are cautioned not to try to map all the characters and plots directly to Baum stories. It doesn’t work very well. Anyway, Tip does look awfully happy in his Princess Ozma getup.
Channing: I really don’t want to know the exact thoughts that correspond to that specific expression on Tip’s face, although it’s probably nothing more than “I am a grown man dressed up as a fairy-tale princess; hooray!” This is the sort of thing Tip thinks.
So It Begins (soitbegins) says:
Ok, that is just weird.
Side note:
Regrowth almost complete. Still waiting for forum admins.
Jane Narbon (lady_madsci) says:

The Mad Scientist Wars:
I go around banging on a saucepan and chanting ‘What do we want? Registrations! When do we want ’em? NOW!”
Eventually, seeing no action from the forum owners, I throw the pan into the ‘Comics by Shaenon’ forum, where it explodes.
Sean Duggan (duggansc) says: I dunno… it’s honestly a thin line (no pun intended) in expressions between “I’m so happy right now” and “I don’t want to remember this. I don’t want to think about this. Going catatonic now…” Given Tip, I suspect the former, but the latter was my first thought.
Jeffrey Channing Wells (channing) says:
Yeah, it’s funny how similar those expressions can be, isn’t it.
MAD SCIENCE WARS PEOPLE:
I’ve shot an e-mail off to the folks at the Nice asking what’s what. I’m very sorry about the inconvenience; I thought my suggestion to move you over to CBS was a good one and could be enacted with little fuss. Little did I know that the approval process on that board was such a protracted one nowadays. I’ll keep you posted. Just don’t blow too much up in the meantime, kthxs.
David Harmon (mental_mouse) says: Sorry if this is a spoiler, but that expression is just so “I’m getting married, wow!”
Elaine Corvidae (elaine_corvidae) says: Am I the only one torn between enjoying the current storyline, and being impatient for the next just so I can see what Tip’s next outfit will look like? I foresee this will be an ongoing conundrum.
Andre Richard (andre) says:
This is joyously nerdariffic 🙂
Ed Gedeon (eddurd) says: Tip has arm hair, but no chest hair? Or did he shave his chest specifically for this outfit? Anyways, he just so cuuuuuuute … I can’t let my wife see this, or she’ll alter my wardrobe …
Aaron Shades (prof_tinker) says:
. . . . . . Oh, my. Tip in an Ozma outfit? Thats so perfectly unutterably adorable! *heart* and such a perfect scepter to go with it!
And he looks so proud of himself, too. . . . yegads, Shannon, are you *trying* to get us to crush on him?
Wars of the Mads:
Many thanks, Jeff. We’ll do our best. *tinkers with a mini-bomb*
Sor Cyress (sorcyress) says:
I am *such* a dork –I saw the image, gasped, and went “OHMAN, OZMA!”
Yay for books. <3
Thomas Levy (ergonomytch) says: Ozma traditionally wore a diadem bearing a Z inscribed in an O, for OZ. Tip here has a T inscribed in an O. Shall he be found to be the lost queen of Tippetarius?
Kristy Valenti (alienjukebox) says: I actually attempted to recreate this outfit and went out as Ozma of Oz for Halloween one year. My trusty friend helped me out, but since I was ignorant of things such as patterns and limited by the lack of even a Michaels in our town at the time, it didn't resemble this very closely. Still, I was able to enjoy the feeling … of having no one have the slightest clue who Ozma of Oz was. I'm pretty happy that I got to do it, though. I wasn't able to pull off the coronet or the giant flowers on the side of my head, but I did the O with the Z in it correctly on the bodice of the gown.
Steph Shaver (onalark) says:
Yay! I'm not insane! There IS an Oz connection!
The amazing gender-changing Ozma is awesome. I remember thinking that as an eleven-year-old. It's amazing what children's books can get away with.
“I might actually use this outfit in the strip at some point, and OMG SPOILERS”
Hm, are we just about at the point where this pays off?
Plus, Tip was Ozma’s name, before her spell was broken.
