Of course, that’s probably an entirely accurate depiction of Lee’s hopes to have a deeper understanding of her creation and for it to understand her. Besides the “not being killed” factor, she seems pretty emotionally invested in Unity sometimes, remember in her first appearance when she was so excited about the progress Unity had made since they last met?
I think Lee is that particularly sad sort of creator that wants to be loved by her creation. Perhaps the best proof that she’s not actually a mad scientist… Or a different type of mad than the stereotype, at least.
I think she’s really just trying (in her warped-but-not-mad way) to be maternal towards her creation…the dynamic between the two of them looks a lot like an exaggerated version of your typical parent-and-teen relationship. (At least partly thanks to the fact that Dr. Lee isn’t oh so very mature herself…)
I believe this is one of those situations where you have to cheer in order to avoid crying. Being told off by your own undead/nanotech creation tends to cause this.
I think UNITY just burned her… I’m not sure though
Unity’s sounding a lot like Mell here.
That’s pretty much how she sounds 100% of the time, except when it comes to eating brains. Although, Mell IS kinda weird- I wouldn’t put it past her.
Hey, take your progress where you can, you know?
(TUNE: “You Don’t Own Me”, Leslie Gore)
I won’t kill you,
‘Cause there’s a thing that I never knew …
I won’t kill you,
It really sucks to be dumb ol’ you!
Your brain chugs away, full blast!
You’re scared, ’cause you over-think!
You can’t make decisions fast!
And does your life ever stink!
I’m so glad I’m
Taking it easy, not hurrying!
All the dang time,
You are obsessing and worrying!
Your brain runs at full extent!
Your mem’ry is full of stuff!
You don’t need more punishment,
To be you is bad enough!
You’re glad that you won’t be killed!
You’ll live through another day!
You totes are so freakin’ thrilled!
You clap hands and shout “Hooray!”
Omigosh, Lee’s face in the first panel.
She looks…. desperate.

that hurt! especially because that sounds like me too
This is coming from UNITY, whose brain is up on blocks. Yes, Lee needs to relax, but UNITY shouldn’t be throwing stones.
“hooray!”
Huh. I suddenly empathize with Lee.
Hey, they’re both right!
FlutterLee.
Yes! Just the voice I heard that “hooray” in.
So I’m not the only one~! |3
That is one of the most astute observations that I have ever seen within the context of a webcomic. Well played, sir!
Ask her out, Dr. Lee! Ask her out!
Given the discussion on Narbonic about Artie getting squicked hearing about Helen having sex because basically, she’s his mum…
Well she has already had Unity inside her . . .
so was Dr. Lee really happy, or really sarcastic in that last panel?
I think she was happy, as it was a better choice than despair.
One thing off her list of things to worry about!

Oh, hey, called it. I think?
