Her avatar was actually created, looks and voice both, by a mad scientist named Professor Lupin Madblood of Narbonic fame. She didn’t come up with it; and if it’s how Lovelace has always been, why should she change it?
Why not? Humans frequently die their hair, get tattoos, and put holes through bits of themselves which they then stuff decorative bits of metal and other objects through.
Why -wouldn’t- a complex AI with a distinct personality and even emotions be able to get bored with he virtual “body” they were “born” with and decide to change it to suit their tastes? Particularly when changing a virtual form is so much easier than changing a physical one?
Obviously SOMEONE knows something about the real-life Disney parks and what sometimes goes on at them late at night, judging from panel four. For those of you not in the know, let’s just say that the family-friendly atmosphere gets a little less “family-friendly” and a little more “adult-oriented” after the little kids have all gone to bed. >-_^<
Oh dear! I guess anything between Lovelace and Dave would have been completely doomed after all. T_T
Maybe that’s part of the reason for the antipathy.
And, in reading my newly-gifted copy of “Narbonic,” I am just getting to the Dave & Lovelace story. Coincidence? I think not…
A macabre version of a Disney theme park? What Banksy madness is this?!?
Well in the VR it’s certainly Dismal…
It’s Dismaland: http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2015/08/dismaland/
For someone who is so disgusted with physical bodies, she went to some trouble to create a hot avatar. Robovanity?

Because she has no good reason to. She’s not a human. Non-organic sapients aren’t going to think the same way we do.
Besides, she’s disgusted with the physical nature of the physical bodies, not with the way they look.
Plus, she interacting with humans, so a human body is a better choice than say, abstract geometric shapes with disembodied voices. Those get old fast.
Does this mean she wouldn’t have gotten physical with Dave?
There’s not much she wouldn’t do for Dave- even less if he tickled her keyboard…
This is the first time I’ve noticed that Nick is wearing a tiny kippah. Squee!
Also, is it just me, or is his human form a lot cuter in this variant than when he was in Goldbug’s little simulation? Probably just me.
He was VR Helmet Nick then. Did you find him as cute when he was in Panoptica’s ‘office’?
My links were stripped from the comment. Drat.
For VR Nick: http://skin-horse.com/comic/wardrobe-any-more/
For Panoptica Nick: http://skin-horse.com/comic/with-unity/
So it’s the Whimsy version of Epic Mickey?
Childe Nicholas to the Dark Tower came…

Oh, I figured it was a reference to vomit.
It’s probably both.
