I should point out we don’t know for sure UNITY’s head is made from two different skulls. She might very well have sewn together the skin from two different heads and stretched it over the skull from a third. Diversity!
I’m assuming everyone’s as enamored of this strip as I am, or more. (windup) Then that means we are enjoying temporarily suspending belief, for short bits of time, in this medium. With cosplay,it can go on practically forever. (pitch)It’s a dangerous power. For some it just involves putting on a magic red cap, and attending the gathering. And undergoing change, or deepening of beliefs, as do all involved. But these are only ancient mysteries deployed today, are they not?
So – I think I see where this is going for the endgame, and I’d just like to point out that mad science is comedy, but narcissistic personality disorder is actually a thing.
Tip’s ability to emphasize with other people seems to be getting worse, and I actually stopped following for a while during SF and picked up again, but I think I’m done at this point. Toxic people who see other people as affirmation and supports are a real thing, and I just can’t find the humor in it.
Its not bold to fuss about a movie
to walk out as the ending credits roll
and its not bold to play the troll
instead its rather droll
there are no diamonds without any flaws
no puzzle pieces made perfectly round
tabs and spaces is how they’re bound
whats missing and whats found
Guess I’ve never found Tip’s narcissism to be toxic or disturbing. His self-absorption seems not so much a disorder as a natural and even healthy response to being the only human in this crowd of Mad Science Projects. It strikes me as more of a sometimes-annoying/often-endearing quirk, rather like a unicorn (in particular, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils).
Indeed, Tip is comically vain and self-absorbed, but unlike a real-world Narcissist, he’s never vicious to others, nor does he ever punish people for failing to confirm his self-congratulation.
I may be presuming, but it sounds like you had a bad experience in your past. I totally get it. I don’t find the Waterboy (or much of Sandler’s stuff) to be a funny movie at all because I was a special education teacher and don’t find making fun of intellectual disabilities funny. I’m sorry that we are losing you, I hope you find some stuff you like.
I think Tip has displayed empathy left and right in the ten-plus years of this comic, too. He goes out of his way to help non-humans and non-living humans respect and help. What kind of actual narcissist does that?
Tip exemplifies the subtle difference between being self-absorbed and being self-centered. Tip cares about others – to a fault sometimes. But he often can’t take his eyes off himself, so it gets in the way of actually helping. A true narcissist, on the other hand, is very much self-centered. They believe the world revolves around them, and heaven help you if you disagree with them. (H.T. comes to mind as an example)
Yeah, I think the key phrase here is “a decade building goodwill”.
Tip gets on with people. He’s not always the most aware of what they want, but once they get it through to him, he will do everything in his power to make it happen. And they know that.
You can certainly criticise him for being self-absorbed. You can even criticise him for his self-absorption being shallowly based on his appearance. But when it comes down to it, he knew his self-confidence was tied directly to looking fabulous, and he voluntarily gave that up, because it was the right thing to do at the time.
If anyone’s interested, I’ve been scrolling back to “Angry at The Sky”, and here’s where the Tip Collection came from:
Earring from the Giant Enlightened Rat
Dress from K.T. on behalf of Emperor Norton
Flower from the Cypress
Scarf from Queen Elena
Shoes possibly from the dog pack (Sweetheart says they’ve taken all the boots Tip left behind)
Necklace from Tigerlily
Wow. Annotating this strip is a genuine talent. I have a hard enough time locating Ginny when she dressed as a superhero. I, too, would appreciate links as well.
It’ll take a little creativity to post all the links. This place has a rather aggressive spam filter, so if you put more than one link in a comment, the system throws the whole thing out. And if he were to post seven separate messages with one link each, the system might just decide to block him, at least temporarily.
I thought that might be the case, which is why I didn’t.
Thinking about it, what I’m going to try is posting the dates and filenames. It means more work to follow than clicking a link, I’m afraid, but it should work.
Earring: 25 April /made-the-gears

Well, Tip’s back. Hopefully the rest off the group will deflate his ego enough to be more useful in the fight to come. Just a little air out of the sails, not enough to stop the ship from moving. Or is that too mixed a metaphor?
Unless that was Virginia’s work, UNITY wins the seamstress contest for sewing together two different skulls.

Alt-Unity put together all the matching parts once.
Did Unity just detach her arm to prove her point?
I believe you are correct. ‘Cause she would totes do that, lol!
Please, nobody sing Mr. Rogers’ “Special” song…
You’re the boss, Pygar.
Instead, here’s a musical tribute to Tip and Tigerlilly. 😀
You can make believe it’s happened,
Or pretend that something’s true…
Try this: the moment I mean starts at about 25:00.
I should have known better than ask that, in *this* crowd!

Brava! Encore! Amen, too.

Eh, not every series is to every taste. Good luck to you and I hope you find one that you like. ^_^

Well, first, if this is the post-coital effect of Tip and Tigerlilly getting it on, what happened to Tigerlilly? Giant funky robots at last?
But second, and more important, you Skin Horse guys, get off your duffs and go rescue Nick!
Giant funky robots powered by three portable fusion pies(two in the annex safe, one in Hitty)?
One giant, clockwork genus loci moving the entire building out of the way of the storm (and which will probably come to be of use during the endgame).
Or the building itself will be the robot.
That’s what I meant by “genus loci”.
I suspected as much, but wasn’t sure.

It’s a cross country cross dressing mission.
And the earring was originally stolen by one of the cobras, all the way back in Borrowers I think.
Much appreciated, Daibhid C!
Could you add links to the strips that you found, too?

Does Shannon’s home have walls covered in pictures connected with yarn?

This strip being what it is, there could hilariously be no fight at all
Any time I hear a man in drag say “What? This old thing?” I flash back to Roy Scheider in Naked Lunch.
