Also, admittedly he’s got built in systems for autopilot work, but is it really a good idea to be playing Minecraft at the controls of an aircraft?

I’d rather he be playing Minecraft than, say, a combat flight simulator.

Hey, Jeff and Shaenon, what’s it gonna take for you to give Nick a human avatar? I mean, we have hologram Lovelace over at Narbonic, and technology has certainly marched on since then. Give a dude a break!

Remember, Nick doesn’t really think of himself as ‘human’ any more.

So, if he was playing Minecraft at the time, would his avatar look all blocky and stuff, and he’s have to suppress the urge to punch everything?

He ALWAYS has to suppress the urge to punch everything, Minecraft or no.

He doesn’t need to punch trees, he has (had?) that giant buzzsaw thingie back from New Orleans.

I hate to think what the fuel budget for project skinhorse must be. Don’t they ever have cutbacks in their department?

All the time, but the joke is that Nick’s fuel (and salary, for that matter) falls under “Furniture”, which has a mysteriously large allocation. More on this joke later. Possibly.

Yes, I’m sure many a Unity aftermaths have been filed under ‘Furniture.’

Related: All government agencies know how to cook the books in their favor so they ALWAYS use up all of their budget. If they don’t, they might get cut next cycle because if they didn’t use it all, they clearly don’t need it. Much ‘Furniture’ is usually bought at the end of the fiscal year to make sure this does not happen. You can find some MIGHTY comfy chairs in governement buildings.

Ah, Dewy, Dewy. I’d invite you over to this office and let your hind end have another think coming…but I wouldn’t want ANY Skin Horse reader to have to suffer that.

Local authority accounting can be a strange business – I work for one and it hasn’t been unheard of for a department to be unable to afford hiring someone on a fixed term contract because there’s no money left, but they can hire a contractor for half the period for twice the money of a directly employed person because it comes from the capital budget rather than the salaries budget…

Not on the navy side – Desks were the old 1960’s huge metal, chairs were the solid nauga cushioned ones.

I didn’t see a chair w/ wheels (other than the CO of the shore command) until I was nearly ready to leave the service.

          And that one was broken.

Didn’t Gavotte collect Tiki furniture or something?

    (TUNE: “My Guy”, Mary Wells)

    High above the ground,
    I’ll play another round
    Of Minecraft!
    Drama is so lame,
So I’ll just play a game
    Of Minecraft!
Yeah, a virtual world I’m gonna build,
While I’m hoping Doctor Lee is … not killed!
Since I can’t fit on the train,
    I’ll exercise my brain
    With Minecraft!

    Water, stone, and wood
Will do me lots of good
    In Minecraft!
    Walking ‘cross the map
    And building lots of chap
    In Minecraft!
So I’ll play it all day and all the night …
Doctor Lee will be just fine … (yeah, right)
Since I can’t help my friend,
I’ll just look for “The End”
    In Minecraft!

Loving no one as much as Virginia Lee,
But she’s in the evil clutches of Violet Bee!
Yeah, Ginny’s the one, without a doubt,
The only one I give a rat’s axe about!

    Stuck up in the air,
    I really do not care
    ‘Bout Minecraft!
    Man, what would I give
If both of us could live
    In Minecraft!
    Mendoza and Wilkin are nearby,
I bet one of them will save her … not I!
    So I’m gonna say, “Whee,”
    Sar-cas-ti-cal-ly,
    In Minecraft!

Nick’s outline on the moon kinda looks like a smiling face.

You know, in the first panel, you probably shouldn’t be able to see the edge of the moon through Nick’s windshield–Ospreys don’t (usually) have rear windows.

Perhaps Nick is flying with his assault ramp down.

Determining the anthropomorphic analogue here is left as an exercise for the reader.

I’d figured that the “vertical” elements were the H-tail of the craft and not the view through the window. Still, those are hilariously oversized rotors: how does he fly without breaking them off against the fuselage?

(Also, this may be old news, but the cast page and the other goodies up top still appear to be broken. Paging template_slug, paging template_slug: anyone else getting flashbacks to the Laundry Files?)

Have you SEEN the rotors on an osprey? Ok, the ones in the first panel are exaggerated. But not by much!

Indeed, most of the time his rotors are drawn too small. Look at a picture of a real one, and you’ll see that they barely clear the hull. In the comic, they look about right for a prop-driven fixed-wing.

Anyone else think Nick looks like Baymax eyes and mouth from big hero 6 in the last panel with the moon? XD
