Oh, right. Blame the Mad Scientist when All Right-Thinking People defend themselves from What Man Was Not Supposed To Know.
err… rather….I mean…
Blame the the pleasant-faced, amiable, elderly inventor fellow wearing a reassuringly slightly rumpled suit when he defends himself and his life’s work from a horde or reactionary Luddites with torches and pitchforks.
It occurs to me that I’ve completely lost track of whether or not there was a man named Whimsy, or if Collodi *is* the Walt of this entertainment empire.
Hmmm, how about this: The body Nick’s currently driving isn’t actually a DOD or AnnaSigma robot. It was originally Whimsey’s magnum opus creation, his ultimate “princess” robot, and the “daughter” he’s speaking to in the film and that the vault was actually programmed to open for. DOD or AS only found it and refitted it to do their drone duty.
Except our good doctor V had already stated that this was based on the model she worked on – Just after she Blueberry Waffled the drone before it completed its self-destruct countdown.
It DOES tell us that the ‘daughter’ is NOT going to be a conventional one. Either in cold sleep, designed to ‘awaken’ under certain conditions, or something along BOTH lines.
Actually, no. Collodi created this memespace entity known as Whimsy, and its influence reached THAT far; in his absence, amongst a host of other things, it founded Anasigma simply so that this gynoid host body would be created. Now his prodigal daughter has returned home…
I fear Nick may be grievously injured, or at least mortally embarrassed, when he gets the boot and the psyche (Whimsy itself? Another AI construct that has been kept dormant all these years? Walt Disney’s head in a jar?) that body was intended for finally comes to inhabit it.
Or, they all get together and give Agent Fancy a makeover. :p

I just LOVE family reunions that begin with automatic weapons fire!
Obviously, the ‘daughter’ entity is the actual “Corporation” AI itself, which just lacks a body. So, the whole point is a way to get the corporation to own itself!

Given how well Helen used to plan things (deliberately or not) back in Narbonic, I’d hazard a guess that Collodi is/was more than capable of arranging for his “daughter” to arise out of such a convoluted chain of events.
Those darn mobs. Always ruining those touching moments between mad-scientist father and created-monster daughter with their running around and shooting things! Somebody should teach them better timing.
Robo-daughter, I’m your daddy!
My tot, my daughter-bot are you!
An angry mob is breaking down my door …
Wait just a second or two!
I’ve been hoping just to meet you
Since the day that you were born …
What fate awaits the greatest crate created by Collodi?
(Guess we’ll find out on Monday morn!)
I think the front sight is a star too. Apparently this is a gun designed to keep any hostages you may have calm and collected. After all, it has nice, friendly stars on it.
I’m watching a show on H2 called “your bleeped up brain” about how the brain tricks you by filling in blanks and making assumptions before your conscious brain ever get the data.
My first thoughts were about Narbonic and Skin-Horse and the ‘reality blindness’ discussed here.
If you look at this through a Nick as Princess Ozma lens, it could be that Nick was always meant to wear the the “Princess Suit”. It could be that Nick really is the princess. What we originally shrugged off as fanboy episodes were actually signs of the true princess personality leaking leaking through the artificial Nick overlay. Collodi’s film may contain a trigger to restore the princess.
There are a few glitches with this line of thought, one being that when Ozma was transformed into a boy by the witch Mombi she went by the name Tip, which sends us a whole different direction. However, I find it suspicious that this storyline seems to be reaching a climax as we approach August 21st, Princess Ozma’s birthday.
I dunno why everyone keeps harping on Nick. I still think Tip is Dr. Colladi’s daughter who was genderswapped by mad science at a young age to hide him, but now identifies fully as male. The daughter ‘waking up’ might point to deliberate mental blocks being broken by the video, which would be… an interesting direction.
…what.
Such a nice man.
Don’t worry. It’s just a gerbil inseminator.
There’s always an out.
Oh, look: the pleasant-faced, amiable, elderly inventor fellow wearing a reassuringly slightly rumpled suit has a ray gun.
As the philosopher once said: “This is the part where you run away.”

But doesn’t that mean it should have sentience of its own?
who says it doesn’t?
He’s been waiting for his “daughter” to “awaken from her slumber”. Possibly the jump from non-sentience to sentience.
I suppose it would take a while to compile sentience on an IBM 360, then load the completed software to the drone at 9600 baud.
This is why you should always install sentience from 9-track tape. It’s much, much faster.
That does speed things up. A petabyte would only take 200 years.

Yay! More gray fills!

Educational films. Is there anything better?

Oh wait, Collodi is about to do so. Never mind.

The stars on the forward stock make the gun more whimsical.
Yeah it looks like something out of a magical girl series.
I think you mean ‘Magical Girl Lyrical Kalashnikov’.
Given the number of times Manga has reached for Russian iconography, I’m shocked this doesn’t exist already.
Well, Magical Witch Punie-chan’s incantation is “Lyrical Tokarev, Kill Them All” after Fedor Tokarev and the guns he designed. Close enough?

No question Mell had one of those as a kid.

It kind of reminds me of a certain unicorn-engraved rail pistol from A Miracle of Science.
Aww, Mary and Gussie were so cute when they were new and naive.
