Not so much that they are opposed, per se, but a hype man isn’t usually concerned with the outcome or even the process. They only have to be convincing. In theory (ha ha), the data would have already been analyzed and filtered before it ever reached the hype man.
Jonah may or may not have kept the one Devil he had been holding, but the rest of them are on board Nick with Tip, and Leo was already aboard. Nick initially thought that Leo was the only non-human they rescued, until Tip “invited” the Devils to join them.
A hybrid Cypress assimilates Unity. Sweetheart decides to quit civil service to stay with the Unity symbiote, who promises to help her fulfill her destiny of conquering America. Tip and Tigerlilly Jones are merged by Cosmognothics into a single being – Ozma. Dr. Lee is extirpated by Anasigma in a vortex of swirling walnuts leaving only her head, preserved in a jar to keep Ira company (because a parakeet has no G/L account). Nick uploads his consciousness to the Cloud and begins living many simulated lives simultaneously.
…while Jonah and Nera live the American Dream somewhere with a neatly mowed lawn behind a picket fence and everything. At which point Jonah turns towards the fourth wall and says: “…what? If this is what it took, then so be it! Don’t judge me…!”
Tip… has gone over the edge. He’s focused on “winning”… but he’s fighting for the nonhuman side!
Echoes: I’m reading Shaenon McGuire’s InCrypted series, which stars its own defenders of the inhuman. Also, her portal duology (start with “Every Heart a Doorway”) is not to be missed!
It took me six months to read her October Daye series (which was amazing) from last year’s Hugo packet, I don’t know how long it’ll take me to get through the InCrypted series.
Tip would probably say your mistake there is thinking “nonhuman versus human” rather than “people (both human and non) versus Sinister Weather and Mind Control Conspiracy”.
I think you’re wrong. He’s not fighting for either “the human side”, or for “the non-human side”. He’s fighting for a third side – “the everyone side”.
He’s basically turning into Sheridan or Delenn from Babylon 5.
Those wrongswears … work. I don’t mean in the usual sense of “You can totally tell what he meant“, I mean that in the second panel, that is a perfectly coherent sentence that someone might say.
I know we’ve been told the swearfilter learns, but I’m starting to wonder what it’s learning.
Are you suggesting that the filter will gain not only intelligence, but sapience and a will of its own, and seek out a better host than Nick? Because, honestly, I can see that happening.
This is why OC (Office of Communication) is a seperate office in government agencies. Nick is a program specialist, his specialties are flying and whimsical cursing. He doesn’t have the METAPHYSICAL time to worry about how things sound; nor should he.
“Skin Horse: Doing stupid silt for the cause for over ten years!”
Or they could repurpose the tag line for last season’s Legends of Tomorrow: “Sometimes they screw things up for the better!”
Tip, the functions of a good hype man and the functions of a good analyst are often opposed. Get used to it. ^_^

Did Tip and Nick leave Leo behind with Jonah Yu and Nera and the Jersey Devils?
Tip and Nick have the Devils. Jonah and Nera have Nera’s car.

That is so horribly wrong on so many levels, you absolutely must write the Fan Fic.

Bravo! Perfect!
Wasn’t Titus Misanthrope living that dream last we saw him?

Yes – it seems Tip is shifting from “social worker” to “activist.” What that portends, who can foretell?

My vote for funniest strip of the week!

Well, it did seem to be flirting with Tip a week or so back.
I’m now picturing the Cartman Chip being powered by Nick…
On the contrary, he’s a literal hype train, er, copter
