Since Unity realized how much it sucks to be Dr. Lee (realized by infecting Dr. Lee with the goo that makes Unity Unity and merging with Dr. Lee), their relationship has steadily improved.
You know what we call magic _anybody at all_ understands? “Science”. Being able to wield it successfully has absolutely nothing to do with knowing how and why it works.
Which makes me curious as to why Dr. Lee seems to take offense.
She is a Master Analyzer, and I would think she would see Voodoo as a challenge/opportunity to expand her horizons.
“Magic is just science we don’t understand yet” is kind of based on the assumption there is no actual magic.
Like, the researchers at Unseen University’s High Energy Magic Building certainly understand magic. And it turns out it’s magic. (Although sometimes it’s magic that superficially looks like science.)
I suspect it was more of a random lumbering, what with not being able to see anything. I suppose it would be similar to clearing a logging trail, but it was undoubtedly not anything resembling a straight line.
One question: why did she say up a science hut? Annex One probably has room for her equipment and will be moving on after this arc, is Dr. Lee planning on staying with the zombies? Their and her interest in disembodied brains intersect, but from different directions, so to speak.
Once you get past the idea that you’re eating brain, it’s just another organ meat. Mostly it’s useful as a binder in sausage, like black or white pudding.
Wow. She kept her hands off Nick long enough to set up all that.
Well, science was her first love.
I sure hope Nick can live with that. Science will always come first with her.
Considering he’s one of her experiments, he might be counting on ut
NEEDS MOAR COCONUT
Upside, no Gilligan to break it.
Well, this mother daughter bonding is off to a good start.
Dr. Lee looks so delighted in the second panel!
And let’s face it. Unity on on brains probably could help with “the science stuff”…
Does that make Nick Unity’s stepfather? That’s kind of weird.
It does not, because Nick and Virigina aren’t married. He’s her mom’s boyfriend.
Since Unity realized how much it sucks to be Dr. Lee (realized by infecting Dr. Lee with the goo that makes Unity Unity and merging with Dr. Lee), their relationship has steadily improved.
Yeah but that was only because she finds science stuff boring and not because her life sucks.
I would totally shop at Science Hut.
Ditto. Sounds like a nifty place.
And the might just have masks and gloves! Albeit evil masks and gloves….
They used to have science stores. I once bought four chemistry beakers at one…still use the three I have left for drinking glasses.
Hopefully after thoroughly cleaning them.
Pretty much. I might’ve bought more, but I was on vacation at the time, it wasn’t a local store, and the next time I went up there it was gone.
Maybe just as well. You buy a lot of chemistry gear over the counter and everybody thinks you’re setting up a meth lab.
Maybe it’s just science that’s too advanced for you, Dr. Lee.
Yeah, how’s that saying go? “Magic is just science that we don’t understand yet.” Only in this case, Remy does understand it.
Remy can make it *go* but he still doesn’t understand it… bit like my parents and computers, I guess.
Remember when he channelled the Cypress’ ex-husband and still didn’t know if he was faking it afterward?
How do you figure that? It looks to me like he not only knew he did it, but also intended to do it.

Go forward a few strips, and you see it was Sweetheart who wasn’t convinced that Remy was actually possessed by Alphonse’s ghost.

“Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science.”

Magic in Diskworld is tangled up with Narrativium, which being related to the insides of people’s heads is necessarily non-scientific.
Seems to be going around this week:

Honestly, I thought her silliness benchmark had moved enough that this sort of thing wouldn’t phase her anymore.
Still re-calibrating mine after the Unity Ant. Curious though, when it lumbered off was it clear-cutting or using selective harvest?
I suspect it was more of a random lumbering, what with not being able to see anything. I suppose it would be similar to clearing a logging trail, but it was undoubtedly not anything resembling a straight line.
Science Hut is a good name for a band.
More like a venue. Tonight only at My Science Hut, Any Amount of Voodoo! With special opening act Lumbering Unity Ant!
I want a science hut!
One question: why did she say up a science hut? Annex One probably has room for her equipment and will be moving on after this arc, is Dr. Lee planning on staying with the zombies? Their and her interest in disembodied brains intersect, but from different directions, so to speak.
Because Annex One isn’t here. They flew Nick out to the Habakkuk and then flew the zombies from there down to Florida.
Who among us isn’t interested in disembodied brains?
Honestly, the flavor is kinda meh.
Eating brain is kind of like eating bland scrambled eggs or thick oatmeal. It needs to be seasoned properly, or just used as binder or filler.
I wouldn’t know, and I have no desire to find out.
I’m with awgiedawgie on this one.
Once you get past the idea that you’re eating brain, it’s just another organ meat. Mostly it’s useful as a binder in sausage, like black or white pudding.
What’s that quote about magic just being an undiscovered/poorly understood field of science if it has rules and repeatable results?
That would be what we were discussing further up the page.
