Encountering funk must be a shattering experience for the crystals.

Oh, nice! You should get your ears rubbed for that one. I guess I’ll have to settle for giving an ear rub to my kitty here at home.

    Is that a theremin?
(And shouldn’t it be “the who?”)

    • awgiedawgie
      April 16, 2018, 2:59 am | # | Reply

No, “whom” is correct. Put it in place using Tip’s sentence: “You need to help the whom?”

And yeah, it could be a theremin.

As with so many things, it depends on your dialect.

More British aligned dialects insist upon “whom”, but many American dialects accept “who” in such contexts, even to the point of finding “whom” improper.

        Tomayto, tomahto.

I may be at times needlessly pedantic, but in my experience — and in my education — the question of who/whom is not a question of dialect, it is a question of proper education.

Yes, there are indisputably a lot of Americans who accept “who” when it should be “whom”, but that is only because they were never properly taught the rules of usage for the two words.

Maybe it’s merely because I work in a high school, but I tend to be somewhat obsessive about grammar.

To me, the question is “what would someone like Tigerlily say?” Not knowing anyone like Tigerlily, I can’t answer it myself. I wouldn’t use “whom” without quotation marks myself, though.

I’ve never thought “The Who” were a funk band.

See the way she throws up the funk,
Spins those discs and shouts out that junk.
My, she turns the volume high
When she boogie-oogies by, we could die.

When she shouts those mixed metaphors,
Feel it down to our inner cores.
The lady’s never one to shy from things we don’t find fun.
And all because of that, we say…

So much treble and it’s all out of the eighties hood.
So much treble and it will never ever do us any good.
But just because she doesn’t play what everybody plays now,
There’s no reason why, speakers set to amplify of…

Spinning all those thirty-threes, shrieking pretty horribly,
‘Cause too much treble, oh, no, no, no,
There’s too much treble, oh, no, no, no, off-key!

And she has found her perfect prey
She will screech our lives away
We’ll be fractured, it’s implied, when we say…

So much treble and it’s all out of the eighties hood.
So much treble and it will never ever do us any good.
But just because she doesn’t play what everybody plays now,
There’s no reason why, speakers set to amplify of…

Oh, too much treble, oh, no, no, no,
There’s too much treble, oh, no, no.
There’s too much treble, oh, no, no.
There’s too much treble, oh, no, no…

—from “He’s a Rebel,” written by Gene Pitney, performed by The Crystals.

Should we start the party with Cameo’s “Word Up” or Parliament’s “Give Up the Funk”?

And being Mad, it’s hard to say if this is a cruel effort to cow them into submission, or just a friendly effort to introduce them to the wonders of Theremin Funk.

Maybe it’s a way of introducing funk to a new culture, and then harvesting the dead for a new piece of madtech. No reason not to multitask.

And if you didn’t start out wanting to kill anyone, Mads have no regrets. An eternal craving for savage, crunchy vengeance, yes. But no regrets.

The crystals seem to be surviving a lot of audio damage despite their stated weakness to it.
Do the crystals reproduce, either physically or informationally? Do they have repair mechanisms? They’ve already stated that loud sound causes data corruption … which, as long as the organism can survive it, is the underlying mechanism of Evolution. 8(
Will we see future crystal entities that are immune, nay thrive on Funk Insanity?

“We … will … groove you … with … our Collective, … Synthetic … Ecstasy!”
